This is from the BBC News website in Spanish:
Mexico’s President, Andres Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), on Friday justified his government’s decision to release Ovidio Guzmán.
”Many human beings were at risk. It’s not about massacres. It can no longer be worth catching a criminal than people’s lives,”AMLO told reporters during their customary morning press conference.
You have the president quoted saying he was released. To be released means he had ben captured first, not “attempted to capture.” There is no “attempt to capture” narrative found in Mexican Media, so why is the U.S. Media going down that path? Does it screw with the Liberal view that Trump calling certain countries “shitholes” is in this case appropriate? Or is it related to Open Borders and the fight to stop enforcement of immigration laws and secure our borders? To show that the Mexican Government is impotent and folds to the threats of a Cartel, is actually having to admit Trump was right and we need to lock down our Souther Border and start sending illegals back.
They cannot have that.
Honestly, it doesn’t look good for the Mexican gov’t either way.
Either they captured him, were so out-manned, out-gunned and out-maneuvered that they had to release him, meaning an utter failure–or, they went to capture him, and found themselves out-manned, out-gunned and out-maneuvered that they had to abort, meaning an utter failure.
They don’t have the necessary planning, strength, manpower or willpower to enforce their will upon the lawless, let alone enforce the law.
If gov’t isn’t in control there (and this clearly proves they are not), someone else (the cartel) is. All the rest is just window dressing.

According to the OP, TWO sons of Chapo were captured. One got away and unleashed the sicarios.
In particular, note paragraph three [quoted below].
“Then the coup de grace: as the Chapo sons’ forces engaged in direct combat with their own national military, kill squads went into action across Culiacán, slaughtering the families of soldiers engaged in the streets.”
This received zero attention in the media.
