As usual, the link to the text itself is provided, go and check it. I am offering a summary of the amendment. I will stress that this are not just simple additions to the Florida Statutes but changes to the Florida Constitution that only happen every 20 years. That means if passed, they are set in stone and even the Florida Supreme Court will have to abide by them for the next two decades at least.
The amendment (text here) to the Florida Constitution brought forward by Commissioner Roberto Martinez (Bio).
- Seals the minimum purchase date of a firearm to 21 years of age and older.
- A Waiting Period of 3 days for the purchase of a Firearm while a ” comprehensive background check” (whatever the heck that could be) occurs. The waiting period can be extended if the background check does not happen during that time.
- Banning of bumpfire and devices that “alter the rate of a firearm to mimic automatic weapon fire or which is used to increase the rate of fire to a faster rate than is possible for a person to fire a semiautomatic firearm unassisted by a kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device.”
