Men inside who told Miramar police they were house-sitting said they heard glass shattering and what they thought was gunfire that prompted them to fire their weapons, Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues said

This is a community of very nice houses and as the story says, guarded & gated. But that does not mean that they are 100% secured or that determined criminals will not find a way in. Hired security is just a layer, not a barrier. You are the ultimate barrier and better be armed with the proper tools.
