Cava Group is a restaurant company founded in 2006 that owns the Cava brand of Mediterranean fast casual restaurants.

They also bought the Alabama founded chain Zoes Kitchen.

They decided to Tweet this nonsense.

This is the image if they ever decide to delete the Tweet.

They are very proud of the fact they reduced the percentage, and probably the number, of white employees.

If you go into the Tweet and read the replies, overwhelmingly they say that Cava is racist and if they are proud to have fewer white employees then they should be proud to have fewer white customers too, and they (the people replying) will not eat at Cava again.

Four things must be noted.

One: Cava is a Mediterranean style restaurant.  Hummus, Falafel, salads, etc.  Not to be overly prejudiced, but food that is very popular with white, upper middle class people.  Pissing off your primary customer demographic is a bad idea.

Two: Cava was founded by Greek immigrants, so white people.

Three: COVID restrictions have already lost them 85% of their usual revenue.

Four: If they had to lay people off because of this revenue loss, and they used that as an opportunity to thin out the number of white people, they have one hell of a lawsuit on their hands.

You’d think the last thing a struggling restaurant chain would want is to drive away customers with a stick, but Cava seemed proud to do just that.

I wonder if bankruptcy is around the corner for them.

They went woke, now they are gonna go broke.  Fuck ’em.

  1. I’ve never been to a Cava, but I’ve been to Zoë’s – once. They are a baby step above fast food. When visiting chain restaurants like this here, I run into one of three types of service, if the server is black:

    1. Robotic overpoliteness – to the point of being irritating, almost condescending.
    2. Indifference
    3. Passive aggression – as if they are going out of their way to serve me.

The one and only time I went to a Zoe’s, it was #2, and slow. The food was bland and overcooked. Never been back, never will, and I won’t try Cava now at all, which isn’t tough since there are but two, one deep downtown and the other way up north, where the yuppies are.

An example of #3 here is Chipotle. Every time there’s a black server, I get shortchanged. My rice and beans rattle around in the bowl before they add about a tablespoon of meat, and I complain. Happened twice, two different stores. Never.Been.Back. When I’m jonesing for mexican food, I’m off to the taqueria now.

I stopped putting up with bs years ago. I go where I’m appreciated.

The only color they should be concentrating on is green.

  2. And as a bonus, this can become fodder for “poor black people forced to serve white people” narratives.

Ye gods and little fishies, these people are going to turn me into a racist at this rate. Damn it.

  3. Tried lunch at “Zoe’s Kitchen” twice, different locations to give it the benefit of doubt… but the end result was the same: the McDonalds near my house has much better food than Zoe’s. Cheaper too.
