This is why you can’t find ammo in stores.
As of 18 December 2020, my fair city had set a 27 year record for homicides. The whole “Defund the Police” nonsense has brought us a resurgence of gang-related shootings not seen since the crack cocaine turf wars of the late Eighties / early Nineties.
The Portland Police Bureau documented 858 separate shootings (and I know a couple more that happened after this article was written).
Portland is actually a pretty small city, with a population somewhere in the 650-700,000 range. Do the math, folks, that’s a high rate of homicides per 100,000 and a staggering rate of shootings. Let’s not even get into property crimes, like vandalism and arson.
And, of course, the most common victims of these crimes are Portland’s African-Americans. But, duck that, we need to make trust-fund kids from Lake Oswego and suburban wine moms from Beaverton feel good about themselves so Defund the Police!
