I think you’re giving them too much credit.
One of my roommates, an admittedly intelligent individual, would respond to this poster by saying “That’s a slippery-slope argument, and slippery-slope is a fallacy for a reason.”
He’s already done so multiple times. He’s simply been trained to ignore any argument which states that A leads to B, B leads to C, therefore A leads to C, even if there is a 100% precedent. The average idiot will be even moreso.
