Over 400,000 rounds of ammunition burned. The horror…the horror.
I understand it was for a good cause: to train fire fighters on the reality (as opposed to the Hollywood fiction) of ammunition burning and what to expect (very little to zero danger), but still that was some painful stuff to watch.
I watched this video about a year ago, and I shed a tear for the munitions lost in these tests, but it is also a valuable lesson. Around here, the cellar savers won’t approach a fire if there is a ‘significant quantity’ of ammo in the structure. Hope they’ve seen this and revised their policies, but I’m not counting on it. (Note to self: need to verify placement and charge status of fire extinguishers this weekend.)
