As a gunsmith, (professional) that’s pretty tame. I got one that they had decided to use longer screws to mount the scope bases. Then they couldn’t figure out why the bolt wouldn’t open. That was a fast 60 bucks.
AH! NO! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT! At least put a cloth pad between the clamps and the wood!

It is very dangerous to do that without wearing a cloth pad between the clamps and the wood!
