Ohio bans the sale of Russian vodka.

Canada bans drafting Russian hockey players.

Glasgow bans Russian films.

Italy bans teaching Russian literature.

Our sanctions on Russia explicitly exempt Russian oil and natural gas.

I don’t think Western leaders really know how to do anything but line their own pockets and engage in political theater.

  1. It’s not exactly de-escalation when you oppress people and companies that have nothing to do with the shit-show.

*Maybe* they want things to escalate? Nah, that’s tinfoil-hat talk 😀

  2. Ah, the ever present urge to do, or rather be seen to be doing, something. Doesn’t matter if it makes sense, let alone actually helping.

  3. This puts me in mind of the rush to purge society of all things German at the outbreak of the Great War.
… But it did force the Marx Brothers to adopt the comic genre we know, so there’s that.

  4. Meaningless. Grandstanding at best. Ohio consumes about 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000039% of the Russian vodka sales in a century. Maybe. And I am being generous with that amount.
    .
The rest of it is just more #hashtag campaign level of crap.
    .
The things that will really impact the Russian economy are being ignored because they will harm the person imposing the sanction just as much as Russia. If you really mean it, turn off the energy pipelines.
    .
Oh… wait. That might harm your polls. Better not.
    .
And, yes, the idiots in DC are evil. They are not allowing Russian imports of oil to continue because they do not want to impact the average person’s budget. It is the loss of votes that the impact causes that they want to avoid.

  5. Um, just spitballing here….

Mebbe if we built LNG terminals on the east coast, finished &placed service Keystone XL, drilled, explored…. price of oil would fall, Putin would have less forex, =less free cash = decreased ability to finance military adventures.

    Jes’sayin’.

    1. What? Devalue the #1 and #2 Russian Exports? How would that affect Putin’s ability to conduct war? /sarcasm!

      F. Joe Biden cancelling the Keystone XL Pipeline, Canada cancelling their oil and gas pipelines, and the US cancelling ANWR and Federal Land oil and Gas Leases drove up the price of oil, made us dependent on Foreign Oil including 100,000 – 300,000 BBL/day of RUSSIAN OIL.

      F. Joe Biden and the EU Financed the Russo-Ukrainian War. With our money!

  6. That would be way more effective for sure and is something that should be done, unfortunately due to the state of domestic oil production here and available oil and gas exports elsewhere, turning that off overnight isn’t possible.

Hey it might actually be enough to get PDVSA profitable!

Only one rule: Don't be a dick.
