According to a white paper prepared for Congress by the Army opposing the amendment, the measure would allow the unregulated distribution of up to 100,000 Colt .45s, more formally known as .45-caliber semiautomatic M1911 handguns. The provision, added by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Ala.), changes parts of federal rules that were meant to boost rifle skills in the country under a program dating back to Teddy Roosevelt. Under existing law, which was updated in 1996, the Department of Defense makes surplus military rifles available to the public through something known as the Civilian Marksmanship Program, which has a regional headquarters in Rogers’ state.

Get a Tagamet and go read the whole thing.
Nobody can be this stupid. Five minutes perusing the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s website would make a liar out of the “white paper” that has no names and no office attached to it. For all we know, some troll or an operative for any Gun Control group could have come up with it, just like the infamous Bush papers.
Unregulated distribution? Untraceable? The CMP is possibly the most annoying entity when it comes to releasing a gun that will be forever attached to your name and vitals. I don’t know how this Michael McAuliff did not research the requirements that can be found in the CMP’s Sales Catalog. Hell, it is only three forms to fill with three pages full of details on what documentation to provide and what kind of shooter you are! And, let’s not forget that little thing called background checks:
And I am amazed that no Gun Control clan has caught with the article yet. I kinda wanted to see the irrational comments and the wails of impending misery.
Hat tip to Tommy C. in the Book Of Faces.
Something tells me that no “gun control” group has run with this because not even they are so stupid as to think the fed.gov would sell mil-surp firearms to American citizens without background checks. Mexican cartel gun-runners, sure. But American citizens? No way!
(Sitting back to wait for the antis to prove me wrong. 😉 )
No Lawyers covered some of this and the stupid ‘white paper’ back in May. The same questions were brought up especially the requirement that all Army memos etc. be w/ letterhead and identifying information. Not just ‘the Army’. Sure seems like some Obama political operative put this together for that ‘military support’.

It’ll get slapped down… sigh… again…
