Goes back to the Brits fighting the Zulus in the mid/late 1800s.
The Zulus always seemed to miss a lot when firing captured rifles, often shooting way high over the Brit lines.
When caught alive and interrogated, they explained that they observed that the rifles shot farther when the rear sights were elevated.
Going by the knowledge that to chuck a spear farther, you had to chuck it harder meant to them that raising the rear sight somehow increased the JuJu in the cartridge and made the rifle shoot bullets ‘harder’.
And they wanted the bullets to hit the Brits as hard as possible.
Nothing really changes in Africa.
They are at least trying to use the sights, which puts them ahead of the curve for third-world shit-hole terrorists and rebels.
