Two years ago we were introduced to “BBQ Becky.” A white woman who called the cops on a black family grilling in the park.
This is how the Huffington Post covered that.
Woman Calls Police On Black Family For BBQing At A Lake In Oakland
Their crime? Using the wrong type of grill in a barbecue-designated zone.
The details are important.
The family was using a charcoal grill in a no-fire zone during a fire watch in wildfire season.
The woman called the cops to report the fire hazard.
Councilmember Lynette Gibson McElhaney, though the family was detained and questioned for one hour.
“In a city that needs significant policing services, we can’t have those precious expensive resources squandered in a frivolous way,” McElhaney told HuffPost.
She added: “Police are not private security for any white person that’s offended by the presence of black folks in our public spaces.”
This woman was denounced as a racist and a bigot, and the internet attacked her mercilessly.
Now compare that to this case.
The he-Karen gave an interview to the New York Daily News.
Christian Cooper said it was a “stressful encounter” when he asked Amy Cooper to leash her dog Monday and she not only refused but whipped out her phone, called 911 and told police an African-American man was threatening her life.
In a Facebook post, Christian said he started filming after Amy made it clear she had no intention of leashing her cocker spaniel Henry, even though Christian pointed out a sign declaring that was the rule.
Tell me which is worse, an unleashed cocker spaniel or a charcoal grill in a wildfire zone?
Yeah, I think so too.
Two things here.
First, the internet hate mob clearly hates white women. Congratulations ladies, you are no longer a protected class
Second, this is all about power.
“I can’t see how [her firing] addresses the underlying issues. I think it’s important to move beyond this instance and this one individual. Too much focus has been put on her when it really is about the underlying issues that have plagued this city and this country for centuries. Racial issues,” he said.
It’s always a good time to turn one incident into a broad topic about what is wrong with society and convict people in guilt by associated skin color.
A graduate of Harvard University’s class of 1984, Christian suggested he’s willing to reconsider his assessment of Amy Cooper based on her actions going forward.
That’s not his fucking job to be the master of her life, deciding when she can be redeemed and returned to society after sufficient contrition.
Also, when some wealthy Harvard prick play the victim, he can get fucked.
The destruction of this woman’s life is the result of one thing.
The intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless.
It is the same mentality, same moral culpability, and same moral turpitude to go online and harass a person’s employer over a few seconds of edited video as it is to carry a club and cheer on the hanging of a black man over the rumor that he winked at a white woman or carry a torch and cheer on the looting of a Jewish community over the rumor that they drank a Christian child’s blood.
In today’s age where the internet never forgets, ruining a life with an internet hate mob is evil.
Miguel says it’s not as permanent as death. Maybe. But if you spent years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars to earn a degree and spent years gaining experience , to because of a hate mob never be able to work in your field ever again robs you of everything you built your life doing. They stole the work product of your life from you.
These are the stakes and the seriousness of the issue.
This is why I fear the internet hate mob so much.
Come to my door with pitchforks chanting “get the Jew” and I can deal with that crowd with a couple of mags of 223.
How do I deal with millions of people behind Twitter accounts making sure I never work as an engineer ever again?
Social media is going to be the end of polite social interaction.
The issue here is that if a nut job begins to thing something stupid, like everyone is a racist, they used to be able to share that locally. Family, friends, co-workers, sometimes a letter to the editor. And, typically, they would not get much support.
However, now, all you have to do is post something stupid, and you will get hundreds, even thousands of positive responses. The more crazy the idea, the more reinforcement you will get from even a few positive responses. Then…. boom you are emboldened to start this BS.
Shootout at the OK Karen corral.
That is why I hate calling people “Karen.” It is just as pejorative as calling all Hispanics “Jose” or “Jesus” or calling all black women “Janiqua” or black men “Tyrone.”
It is offensive and I do not play that game.
How to deal with this? “ dont go to stupid places with stupid people and do stupid things”
Leash yer dam dog! Dont get in pissin contests with people with cell phones. Dont live where you cant enjoy FREEDOM
