I saw Miguel’s post on Mayor Ted Wheeler’s response to Antifa’s rioting on New Years.

Here is video from the riots.

The police are retreating.

They are using large volume pepper spray and pepper balls against the crowd and the crowd keeps advancing.

After a year, these rioters are battle-hardened professionals.  They are immune to pepper spray and pepper balls.  They are not phased by it anymore.  Shields, armor, masks, umbrellas, they know how to avoid being brought down by less-lethal munitions.

They are throwing Molotov cocktails and IEDs.  They are bringing lethal mele weapons to the fight.

They are advancing while the police are retreating because they know that the police response is limited by the Leftists in charge of the city.

Mayor Wheeler can say whatever he wants about it being time to get tough, but as long as the police can only use seasoning while having incendiary and explosive devices thrown at them, nothing will turn around.

This is not a police action.  This is a war.  The other side knows it.

There is only one way to stop this.  The police must be authorized to use lethal force.

When the crowd starts to push against the police like a Roman phalanx, the police should shoot through the shields with 62 grain 5.56.

Anything short of that is ineffective.

Since that will never be authorized, the police should listen to Antifa and just quit.

It’s not worth being maimed to killed trying to uselessly defend yourself and a city that elects a Mayor that hamstrings police.

Either shoot Antifa or surrender and walk away.

  1. False dichotomy. See Aesop’s blogpost (“Raconteur Report”), “Tomorrow”.

    One solution of many.

  2. “shoot through the shields with 62 grain 5.56. Anything short of that is ineffective.”

    Oh, I don’t know.

Winchester 55gr “Ranger” duty ammo should also work okay, I’d think…

Or .308 something-or-others from rooftop overwatch points.

  3. Your point is valid, the police response is inadequate in this situation.

But there is a bigger problem: even when police succeeds, the charges are dismissed by (usually Soros sponsored) DA.

If there is no punishment for the crime, the crime becomes the norm.

  4. I would have quit years ago if I worked for the Portland PD. Why on earth put yourself at risk of death and/or prosecution from a Marxist DA? No paycheck is worth that. Find a different job out in the countryside, take a pay cut, sit back and watch things crumble.

    1. It is mostly pension problem, I believe

Look at the years of service for those who quits: early and after min pension requirement.

If you sink enough years of your life into it, it is bondage.

      1. Instead, show up to work and do as little as possible while drawing a paycheck. No risk of getting killed if you never do anything.

  5. I guess it’s time for the police to employ proven tactics against advancing infantry.
    Pikes and muskets 😀

Of course then the ANTIFA will react with skirmishers armed with halberds and big swords to break the Police formation at which point the Police will drop the pikes and switch exclusively to muskets used in a staggered advancing formation for a high volume of fire but that will lead to ANTIFA digging trenches and employing sharpshooters to sever the chain of command and that forces the police to employ combined arms “Blitzkrieg” tactics against the ANTIFA who then try to counter this by gaining air superiority…

    1. Re that last … Drones are already being used in combat, both as designed and improvised application. I’m a little surprised antifa haven’t been more active in adopting this yet.

  6. Im really surprised there are ANY police in portland. Ida bagged up n left long ago. No pension is worth your life. Especially when the ptb above you wont let you do your friggin job. Lotta these blue cities need a whompin case of the blue flue

  7. Make RD Emperor for a Day.

First thing I would do is outlaw Government Unions, or eliminate all civil service rules. One or the other, not both.

Second thing would be to require all pensions are Defined Contribution, not Defined Benefit, and require every Pension Plan be converted over within two years. Yes, that would include Social Security for anyone over 45.

Third, make Malfeasance and Misfeasance in office a Capital Crime.

Maybe instead the answer is allowing private citizens bringing criminal suits?
