In a redneck-ish way.
AR 15 with iron sights, unsupported, standing at 35 yards shooting .22LR with CMMG Conversion kit.
The pan, the self-healing and the steel targets got most of the ballistic seed (Federal Automatch 40 grains) because feedback is fun. The CMMG kit ran flawlessly through 3 mags (75 rounds) and my only issue is going to be to clean the rifle. In fact, I am going to leave it as a dedicated .22LR AR and maybe buy a couple of extra mags.
Dunk-Kit is your friend…
did the .22 penetrate that pan or am I just seeing impact spatter? Bet it made a fun sound either way.
I expanded that photo, it sure looks like holes to me, especially the one close to the rim that bent the rim inwards. A 22LR will shoot through some surprising things.
Go dedicated – the barrel twist will be correct for .22LR, and no gas system to have to clean. Got my 16 inch pencil from RightToBear for my XM177E22 build. Mags can be CMMG or Black Dog’s version, but there’s an option to use the S&W mags, which will give you last-round bolt-hold open, if you use the Catch-22 magazine catch. (CMMGs will hold the bolt open with the follower, so the bolt will drop when you pull the mag.)
There’s also an adapter to use AM180 drums, like an inverted Lewis Gun. :V
