Jamal Khashoggi was murdered and dismembered by the Saudis in Turkey.

The media is rushing to blame Donald Trump, personally, with the talking point being “Donald Trump’s anti-Media fake news claims emboldened the Saudis to do this.”

Is anybody outside the Old Guard media and radical Left buying this horseshit?

Do they think we as Americans suffered some sort of collective amnesia and forget that every country in the Middle East, with the exception of Israel, is a repressive Islamist tyrannical dictatorship?

Do they they think that Americans don’t know that Saudi Arabia chops of heads and hands in public for a wide variety of crimes including blasphemy and criticizing the king?

Do they believe that we don’t know that the 9/11 hijackers and Osama himself were Saudis and that the number one pastime of Muslims is butchering people that disagree with them – including other Muslims?

“But Trump still supports Saudi Arabia after all this.  See how much he hates the Press.”

I hate the press too for not explaining why Saudi Arabia has gotten bilateral support from every American President since WWII.

And no, it’s not all about oil.

Saudi Arabia came into existence in 1932 after King Ibn Saud systematically conquered the various warring tribes and nomads left in the wake of the collapsed Ottoman Empire.

Saud was a fanatical Muslim who has a dozen wives and sired 45 sons, which is why Saudi Arabia is filled with princes who control the country.

The repressive monarchy of the Saud family is the only thing that keeps the Arabian peninsula from falling apart into tribal war.

Notice a trend here:

The Taliban was the only thing that kept Afghanistan from exploding with tribal war.  Saddam Hussein stabilized the tribal infighting in Iraq.  The Shah of Iran did the same thing there.

In Muslim nation after Muslim nation in the Middle East, the only thing that keeps the tribes, families, clans, and religious sects from killing each other off and is a repressive dictator.  Take away that dictator and infighting happens.

We got rid of Saddam and Iran had a civil war.  We destabilized Bashar al-Assad and Syria entered a civil war.

We support the Saudi Royal Family because it is a stabilizing force in the Middle East.

We have to choose between the lesser of two evils:
1) A dictator who pacifies one of the largest and most economicaly powerful states in the region; or
2) We let Saudi Arabia collapse and let terrorist cells gain access to oil money and go to war with the West and Israel.

I chose Number 1.  So has every previous American President.

Furthermore, a stable Sunni Saudi Arabia provides acts a foil to Shia Iran, keeping a balance of power in the region.  If Saudi Arabia were to destabilize, it would give Iran the opportunity to engage in massive conquest and sectarian war.

So when a more accurate headline would be “Repressive tyrant Prince murders critical journalist” and the Administration gives a collective yawn, it’s because we know that’s how those regions behave and we’re willing to accept it because the alternative is a Middle East driven WWIII.

  1. Today’s WSJ has a page 1 headline “Turkey adopts ‘drip-drip’ tactic”.
The Saudi story has changed several times. But the Turks change their story at least as often. “We have a video and audio recording”. “We have an audio recording”. “We have given the recording to the US”. “No, of course not, we haven’t given the recording to anyone”.
It sure isn’t clear to me what motives the Turks have in all this. But their credibility is only slightly better than that of the Iranians.

  2. If it weren’t for oil, we would allow the mideastern tribes to slaughter themselves at their leisure, much as we do with the African tribes. We can either maintain uncomfortable alliances with despicable dictators in the interest of maintaining trade and some semblance of peace or we can withdraw and let the Russians move in. They have a vested interest in keeping the fighting confined to Southwest Asia. and outside the ‘Stans of the former Soviet Empire. There really isn’t any other choice. As bad as the Pax Britannia was, it did work until WWI.

As much as it pains me to say it, the only real response to the Khashoggi affair is to accept the Saudi government’s explanation of “Rogue Elements” and maybe impose token sanctions with a private warning not to so publicly stupid in the future.

  3. And known, but little publicized in the proggiepress, is the fact that Kashoggi was a supporter of the moslem brotherhood – no friends of the Saudis, who call them a terrorist organization. Supposedly he had ‘left’ them, but with moslems and mudarat/taqiyya(deceit) you never know.

One thing certain, moslems kill off each other as much as they do anyone else.

  4. Turkey is no better than KSA, and probably a damn sight worse.

Where are all the concerned western journalists demanding Erdogan free his journalist foes? Wikipedia even has a list of Turkish journalists killed in the last century.

  5. Who would most benefit by driving a wedge between the US and Saudi Arabian political relations?

    Turkey and Iran.
