I had not shot my S&W 65 in ages and a can had been misbehaving, so I went to the backyard and put a few rounds through it.
First, I forgot the spring job I did for when I shot IDPA which means I forgot that single action pull is somewhere in the 2 pound or less region. And that is why we have the Four Rules. I need either to get rid of the spur or take it back to factory settings.
Second, I got old and my hands did too. I don’t remember feeling the recoil this much but my hands were also cold so there might be some added discomfort there.
Third, I forgot how much fun is to shoot it! No “pew!”, no “bang!” but BOOM! That’s some sonic therapy right there.
And I must inform you the can did not make it.
Old wadcutters. Try finding ammo right now for that. Or you could go use .38 special. It’s easier to find.
Cheap mechanics gloves, now that scuba gloves are priced out of my marketplace. Good for shooting, driving, pawing through wheel weights.
You stole my thunder! Gloves make a world of difference. I DO love the BOOM..
I’m jealous of the ability to have a shoot in the backyard. Makes me miss living “out in the county” in rural Southern Oregon.
Get that one out of the safe more often!
Shooting full power .357 in a K frame S&W isn’t all that fun, is it? Even Jordan himself advised using .38 special for practice as noted by John Taffin.

I really enjoyed my L frame S&W in 357. It had a serrated trigger, that after a bunch of shooting, really hurt my finger. I put a thin layer of silicone on it, even more fun.
Mine is like that but a shorter barrel, so it really stings when fired with .357 mag. I do that once in a blue moon, but stick to .38 most of the time.
I did a wheelgun shoot. It was an outlaw USPSA match. Revolvers only, six shots only. So stages were set up with round counts in multiples of six.
It was a lot of fun.
I accidentally grabbed a box of 357 along with my 38. On the last stage the first two targets were poppers.
I put two 357s in for shots one and two and the rest were 38s for paper.
You should have seen those poppers go down on 158gr soft points. BOOM!!! BOOM!!! Pop pop pop pop.
