When patriotism was something to be celebrated.
When soldiers who survived to be old men were respected, and families of the fallen were hallowed.
When Navy sailors still learned to shoot and handle rifles. (The man with the rifle on the far right is in U.S. Navy dress whites.)
When the flag had 48 stars, and artists had enough pride in their work to individually draw every one of them.
As the saying goes, the past is another country. They do things differently there.
