As as history buff, this was always my favorite Christmas song.
Two years ago, on the century anniversary of the 1914 Christmas Truce, the English grocery chain did a commercial commemorating the event.

Mikhail Gorbachev peacefully dissolved the Soviet Union on December 25, 1991. Boris Yeltsin nd the Commonwealth of Independent States came to power. No World War III, no nuclear holocaust. In a little over ten years, Ronald Reagan and his policies beat the USSR without sparking Armegeddon.

Every time I see that commercial it gets to me! Sad to say, but officers on both sides got in trouble for that little episode. And the General staff’s made sure it never happened again!
