And that is not good. Specially when the guns appear to be replicas and one of them is a muzzleloader replica.

MDPD is usually saavy on stuff like this. Whomever decided this was the smart thing to do is probably an import from a northern LEO latitude who does not realize the county is populated with sarcastic Gun Aficionados.

Now he knows.

  1. Thanks for this. I collect these for my Safety, Mythbusting, and History firearms class. It nicely demonstrates the attempts of police departments to elevate their anti-gun efforts.

  2. That one on top isn’t a replica, I don’t think. It looks like a legit muzzle loading percussion rifle. Even if it IS a replica, it is a black powder rifle and isn’t legally a firearm.

    1. @Divemedic: I believe that black powder weapons are considered firearms in a couple of states. Air guns as well.

      1. Florida Statutes (Chapter 790.001) states that an antique firearm is not classified as a firearm unless it’s used in the commission of a crime. So on the face of it, the long gun isn’t a firearm, since it can’t be tied to a specific crime.

  3. We can make fun of the MDPD for this pic, but I bet those guns are antiques stolen from some guy’s house and sold on the street. Most criminals aren’t gun guys and even an old black powder pistol waved in a store clerk’s face is enough to get him to empty the register.

    Somewhere some collector is sad and pissed his stuff is missing.

    1. Since they are not legally firearms, they likely don’t have a serial number, meaning that there is no way to know that. This still isn’t worth parading them all over the press as if you just busted the crime of the century.
      The fact is, they were put on this press release so the cops can brag about getting the evil guns.

  4. It’s Miami fercryingoutloud! Where’s the Mac-10’s?
    Dope gang standards have gone way down from the days of Griselda Blanca.

    1. But Chuck Norris taught me that anybody who is somebody in Florida has a pair of Mack 10 attached to their suspenders.

  5. Is the barrel of the long gun bent, or is it just a weird effect of the photo? It almost looks like a rubber dummy they use in movies.

    1. I see three possibilities:

      It’s straight, this is a photo artifact;
      The cops bent it; or
      Someone’s a Bug’s Bunny / Elmer Fudd fan.
