SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Gun makers and dealers in California will be required to block firearms sales to anyone they have “reasonable cause to believe is at substantial risk” of using a gun illegally or of harming themselves or others, under a new law that Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Tuesday that he had signed.
It’s a subjective requirement that goes farther than current background checks or prohibitions on selling guns to people prohibited from owning them.
The regulation is part of the new law creating a good conduct code for gun makers and dealers that also allows anyone who suffers harm from violations to sue.

Not one single firearm in California should be sold to Politicians or Law Enforcement from now and till the stupid law gets removed.
That trick has already been tried; I don’t recall how it turned out.
Basically, someone sued (IIRC) a retail gun dealer for selling a gun to someone who passed the State’s official background check and but who nonetheless went on to use the gun in the commission of a crime.
The argument boiled down to: you shouldn’t have sold him a gun, because you should have known he was a threat, because of his skin color.
Having that standard imposed by the State, now… I wonder what Justice Thomas will think of that?
