I have no ideas how many times this idiotic statement has been debunked with deadly examples.

You would think the “Offer no resistance. Give them what they want” meme would have been disproven once and for all when Neville Chamberlain gave Herr Hitler Czechoslovakia. As a temporary tactical maneuver, it has some value to buy time to get your weapons into action. As a way of life, it makes you a doormat and a slave.
A doormat, a slave, and quite possibly dead. Hence the revised saying: better to live on your feet than to die on your knees.
Ah … Is that possibly reversed? (Granted in the one case you’d die on your knees anyway.)
Reversed from the traditional form is what I meant by revised. The original assumes that “living on your knees” is what your enemy wants for you. As history has shown many times, this ain’t necessarily so.
