Ms. Delus is a face we have seen popping a couple of times. I am guessing that with the whole “NRA wants to kill women” meme and having so many NRA members and friends from the Military, she is needed to act as counter-balance: “See we have a Military Woman that agrees with us.. and she shoots too”! kind of thing.
So, who is Marie Delus? Let her do her own intro:
My name is Marie Delus. I am a United States Marine Corp Veteran of Desert Storm, a Civil Servant in City government, an advocate and member of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, a Mom, a Grandmother and I am also hurt, disappointed and close to despondent because forty-five so-called “Leaders”, Members of Congress, didn’t have the guts to vote “yes” to common sense Background Checks. On November 11, 2008, my family lost my Nephew, Pierre-Paul Jean-Paul, to a bullet in Cambria Heights, Queens.
Her Linkedin profile is a bit more descriptive:
I have worked for the city as a manager for twelve years, and have worked in city government for over twenty years, and am extremely knowledgeable about New York City’s rules and regulations regarding agency managers and administrative personnel, as well as overall city agency procurement policy and procedures. I am the President of T Flip R, LLC a for-profit organization that assist Not-for-Profit Organizations, Small Business, and Corporation with their community, national and international charitable initiatives. Academically I possess an Executive Masters degree in Public Administration from Baruch College, and a Bachelor of Arts from the College of New Rochelle.
At least she did not play the Stay-at-Home Mom bit. But here is when things start to get a bit fuzzy:
I am currently the Deputy Agency Chief Contracting Officer (Deputy ACCO) for the Office of the Mayor’s Fiscal Operations. In that capacity, I plan, direct and manage contractual/procurement activities for some 45 mayoral units and subdivisions; direct various professional and other staff members in agency research activities and the resolution of various contractual issues; and manage the Accounts Payable, Contracts, Purchasing, Travel & Budget Units
That is the Office of the Mayor of New York City and has held that position for 18 years & 3 months. Now as president of T, Flip R LLC, a for profit corporation that states in its website that they identify charitable initiatives; assist with the preparation of proposals; seek corporation sponsorships and State, Federal grants; organize/host fund-raising and various events. May this be a bit of conflict of interest? I have no problem with a for-profit organization capable of cutting through red tape but doing it while working for a government agency at the same time? Then again I am not hip to Tammany politics.
And she did do Volunteer work in Haiti after the earthquake in 2010, God Bless her for that. According to her blog:
She appears to have spent 2 weeks in what was hell on earth. That is deserving of congratulations.
In her blog (update infrequently, about one or two posts per year after 2010) we also see her gun control activism surface:
The No-Debate policy is nothing new. Moms Demand Social Media will not accept contrary opinions and will ban those who post them. Nothing news there. And she is a wee bit intolerant about those who contrary her on the matter:
But what struck me as funny is that for a former Marine, she does not use the proper terminology or makes the difference between Assault/Military rifles and what is sold to civilians and uses bullets instead of cartridge or rounds. She touts to be a Marine who qualified as Sharpshooter so this should be an easy thing to remember, specially when she states that she enjoyed shooting in the military.
Checking on more of her post, I found this one:
And then, this one:
I am not passing judgement. Her family has a history of dealing with violence and God knows how it may have affected her. I do find fascinating that Everytown and Moms (and the Left in General) have no problem dragging and manipulating people in pain for their political agenda to discard them once their usefulness is over.
And if anybody thinks I am wrong, tell me: Has anybody heard of Andrew Goddard lately? How about Cindy Sheehan? The parents of the Sandy Hook kids mentioned much? It seems that they came with an expiration date, are not useful anymore. They suddenly have the value of a pet Rock, a Mood ring or a Furby.
“Delus”, eh? I guess the proper name for her posts would be “Delusions”?
So a gang-banging criminal thug walks up on her nephew and murders him in cold blood in a city w/ full licensing and registration but she thinks one more law would have stopped him?
Hmm, my comment before must not have worked.
Let’s try again:
It only makes sense that someone named “Delus” specializes in writing delusions.
I really hope she is not representative of any U.S. Military.
The English chosen by her is unclear and full of grammatical errors. I had to reread twice to get her point.
Broken sentences, initially thought due to a fixed twitter word count, are revealed again where word count isn’t limited.
She must not have any experience with reading FBI or DOJ crime reports. Or the many documented accounts of DGUs.
Avoiding debate is a defense mechanism. To control her own narrative. More legal guns, less crime. But she wants to reclassify and rewrite laws to make all guns illegal. So she can have it fit her narrative.
Her way does nothing to prevent or stop crime. Only fulfill her self serving “feelings”, which are ignorant and misplace accountability, blame, and responsibility.
At the risk of pissing off a lot of people, I have to get something off my chest:
I am tired of the sanctifying of veterans, as though their experiences or opinions count more than that of other citizens. Fox News does this a lot, if something bad happens to a veteran, it becomes the story de jure.
I was in the Guard, I have family that served, I lived outside a major US Air Force base and used to teach math to military personnel. There are a lot of people who join up for a lot of reasons. For some, it’s patriotism. For many, it’s just a way to pay for college. And for a surprising number of people, it is a way for somebody else to make decisions for them for a while. I knew A LOT of enlisted men who joined up because they were screwing up their lives, high school and college dropouts, flunkies, and pot heads who needed some structure and enlisted. The pay and benefits for a low rank enlisted man with a GED is a lot better than part time at McD’s with the same level of education.
I’m not trying to crap on all military here, a lot of vets are decent people. But to blanket treat all vets as red-blooded Americans who fought for our freedom and constitution is not an accurate representation of the motivation for service. I knew more than a few liberal democrats in the military, who believed that only the police and military should have guns. Seriously. Look at Gen. McChrystal and his belief that only the military should have assault weapons, or the Sen John Walsh who was anit-gun and just had his masters degree revoked from the Army War College.
This woman may have served in the Marines. Thanks for her service. But that enlistment doesn’t give her the moral authority to disarm the people she swore to protect and defend.
Speaking as a retired squid…. I second your opinion. Service in the military and expertise/familiarity with military weapons does not imbue that person with any authority on the keeping and bearing of arms.
And based upon her comments and word usage about rifles, I would love to see her definition of “sharpshooter.” In the Marines, that is an infantry position for a squad and is called the “designated marksman.” She is obviously NOT familiar with military rifles.
Is there a description of her MOS? She absolutely was not in the infantry.
Is she saying that she only qualified as “sharpshooter” while in the Marines?
Yet more dishonesty by the gun control crowd.
I’d like to add Wes Clark to J-‘s list, as well as the last ~10 years’ worth of USARAK commanders, who won’t even let their folks carry OFF-duty, like you and I do. I agree with J- wholeheartedly on the overuse and abuse of the “veteran” card, especially in situations like this. The military is a rather hoplophobic organization, in my experience.
Despite Ms. Delus’s Germaic penchant for randomly capitalizing nouns mid-sentence, I would have expected a veteran to be able to properly spell Marine Corps, if only out of respect. I mean, what the hell is the Marine Corp? A corporation? I should probably be happy she didn’t write “Corpse.”
Having said that, it appears that both of Ms. Delus’s sons were shot in seperate incidents (both survived), according to her bio here: (http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/nra-convention-gun-violence-survivors-and-moms-from-across-the-country-come-together-in-indianapolis-to-represent-overwhelming-majority-of-americans-including-gun-owners-who-support-gun-safety-256532821.html)
I was unable to find any info on either of those shootings. However, with respect to her nephew’s shooting (http://queensda.org/newpressreleases/2014/october/gooden_10_07_2014.cnv.pdf), it seems that her nephew’s attacker had been in trouble with Johnny Law before (scroll down to “Queens” here: http://nypost.com/2006/05/25/nypd-daily-blotter-1471/). While it doesn’t list a disposition for the charges, if Mr. Gooden was 17 in Aught Six, he couldn’t have been more than 19 or 20 at the most 2+ years later. How, exactly, would background checks have helped prevent this?
Thank you.
I would like to know a little more about Ms. Delus’s sons. Two sons shot in separate incidents. The statistics about that being random incidents of violence have to be staggeringly unlikely. I am curious if her sons wer involved in some sort of criminal/gang/drug activity that made them more likely targets of gunfire?
I assume that info is going to be buried since it doesn’t help this woman’s cause if both her sons went from “gun violence victims” to “gang bangers shot in a drug deal.”
No racism intended, just going by the likelihood of one family suffering that much random violence.
She claims to have a Masters’ Degree, but can’t express herself in grammatical middle-school English.
Notice how much better our host’s English is, and he’s an immigrant from a non-English-speaking country, for crying out loud.
She probably does have the degree, but got it from one of those diploma mills for government workers; she probably doesn’t have the intellect for actual grad school.
Just one more Bloomberg hireling.
“A players hire A players; B players hire C players; Bloomberg? Hires D students, what’s that make him?”
[…] Go read this article… […]
Amazing. Someone who has so little command of the English language and an obvious lack of proper education wants to force their ignorance and jaded agenda on everyone? Maybe she should Google “The Color of Crime” and see the TRUTH about what the REAL problem is.
She should have written her article in ebonics, that way the true perps would be able to understand it.
[…] Just another Everytown grassroots spokesperson who happens to work pretty high up for the Mayor̵…. It’s astroturf as far as the eye can see! […]
Hi Guys, thank you for the write up; I always find it interesting when I see a blog write-up about me :). It keeps me relevant. Unfortunately, I cannot read everything and answer all questions or satisfy all doubt so I won’t bother. I will say that I am old school Marine so I apologize in advance for using broken terms such as Marine Corp instead of Marine Corps. I won’t even get into the grammatical errors and spelling; no I am not trying to right Ebonics [LOL on the Ebonics comment by the way – I won’t even suggest racism – let’s just say I need an Editor].
As far as everything else that I’ve said about my life; it’s all true and there is a lot, lot, LOT more to the story. Thank you again for looking into my life. Hope all is well at your end. My best, Marie D.
Oh! I almost forgot someone hacked into my website and knocked it down for a few days. I was able to determine that this incident happened on October 14th. I couldn’t understand why October 14th; it seem like an obscured date but now I know. Thanks again. MD
Sorry for the error – I meant “write” not “right” :). I resubmitted the quote. If possible can the author or manager of this website delete the first post. Thank you again.

My final comment before I go; I am one of “those” Gun-safety regulations Advocates that believe in the right to bear arms. Although, I do get ticked off every time there is a senseless shooting/killing (by any means) which leads to some of my comments on my blog; etc.
My overall thought is if a responsible person wants to have a gun then it’s their business. My problem is with individuals who are not responsible and add to the gun-violence problem. Of course, I find that most Gun-right Advocates don’t care about gun-violence they only care about the right to bear arms period.
Okey Doke byyye – by the way, I find some of your comments here to be “madddd funnnnny” (Ebonics). I’m out!
Interesting comments, so I have a question. Should offense be taken that ‘we’ have been accused of hacking, or flattered ‘we’ are talented enough to to know how? Hmm, I vote, talent!
I do have one question for Ms Delus, what law would she suggest to make things safer? I’m not opposed to the idea, I am only in doubt of the effectiveness.
Thank you,
Donna g
how does she justify her attempt to ban firearms with her oath to support and defend the constitution? sounds like an oath breaker to me.
