  1. I never did have a treaty with the wasps, but now that my immune system has gotten sensitized to their venom (after the second booster, I guess it was), I’ve been going full Dalek on them whenever they show up. Nuisances, I can tolerate; threats, not so much.
And, yes, that’s another reason I Need A Flame Thrower. The poison spray is just not as satisfying, and is poisonous to boot. (Using a flame thrower against nests attached to house or barn is, however, Not Recommended.)

      1. Welding blankets may limit collateral damage, but it seems like emplacing one around a defended target might be a bit problematic.
(No, I don’t have a beekeeper suit, nor even a motorcycle outfit.)

      1. Hmmm… yeah, wasps and their nests are much more vulnerable than wood, especially painted wood. Still, I don’t want to go spraying flaming liquid fuel around.
        Butane/air fire vortex gun?
Break out the crate of DEATH RAY COMPONENTS and assemble the big honkin’ CO2 laser?
Maybe it’s time to build that 4 Watt blue laser pistol I’ve been pondering for years (with laser sighting, of course; just turn down the power and/or duty cycle to something reasonable for aiming mode).

    1. Brake cleaner is the best bee kiling liquid of all time. It probably isnt good for the grass and your various delicate surfaces to spray it all over everything though….

      1. VX might work even better, but it’s not very selective. (Also, just for the record, I definitely do not have a stash of VX in the barn. Really. I just checked, and it wasn’t there.)
The foamy stuff in spray cans is reasonably effective on nests, but it’s not meant to be persistent. I’ve tried various pesticides on wasp habitat, to varying effect; the last application of bifenthrin didn’t entirely banish them from the retaining walls, but they haven’t returned to the barn nor the truck (which is kind of a big deal), and I subsequently found a bunch of dead carpenter bees under some damaged woodwork that I’d sprayed.

    1. They want to be respected members of the international insect community; therefore, they will honor their word.

  2. Ground wasps are the worst… you dont see the nest till ya step on it. 8 rounds of #7 birdshot and 15 minutes with the hose and i had a 3 foot across 4 foot deep mud hole with little drowned waspys floatin in it, alot of em in pieces…

  3. Offer the wasps no quarter, for they will certainly not give you any.

Seriously though, if you like watching nests get dismantled, I recently stumbled across “Hornet King” on Youtube. Guy seems to be a pro. Really interesting videos.

  4. i have similar deals with the mice. They are free to mouse around but if i catch one THERE IS NO QUARTER.

The woodchuck and i also currently have a non agression treaty. Should he violate that by eating any future vegetable garden i plant, he has been assured retribution will be swift abd deadly.
