It seems that H.R.38 – Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017 will bring fire and brimstone to the Empire State plus the fall of Western Civilization as we know it. At least that was the editorial of the Times Union.
“Now some Republicans want to effectively wipe out state laws on concealed handguns altogether.”
Wishful thinking for all of us, but it won’t happen yet. National Constitutional Carry is still some ways to come.
On its face, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017, sponsored by Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., would let people who are allowed to carry a concealed firearm in one state carry it in any other state. A closer look shows this bill would gut the ability of states like New York to stem the proliferation of concealed guns.
Well, that is the idea, right? And if New York was serious about stemming the proliferation of concealed guns, they’d simple make it illegal to carry concealed. Oh you mean the criminals carrying a concealed weapon? It is already illegal in New York, isn’t? Not doing a bit of good either.
The act would allow anyone to carry a gun concealed in any state if they “carry a valid concealed carry permit issued by, or be eligible to carry a concealed firearm in, his or her state of residence.” It would also end gun-free school zones.
What the hell did I just read? The elimination of Gun Free Zones sure as hell it is not in the bill. Did they legalize pot for “medical reasons” in Albany and I was not informed?
What that means is that some people wouldn’t need a permit at all, if they live in one of the 12 states that allow concealed carry without a permit.
No, seriously, this idiots purveyors of fake news did not even bother to read the bill and are making shit as they go.
This would effectively reduce handgun control in America to the least common denominator, negating the more stringent rules in states like New York.
Stringent rules as in $6,000 worth of bribes to get a NY License, right? I do believe that politicians hate Shall Carry laws is because it has destroyed graft and corruption around the permitting system.
It does not bother me anymore that the media lies. But I do believe that at least some modicum of writing style has to be preserved and not just throw words on paper hoping your readers are too dumb to double-check. Finesse the lie, use fancy words like allegedly, hint rather that titillate.
I guess we can say with certainty that Albany’s Time Union is a member of the:
The Times-Useless has always been a US equivalent of Pravda. No one outside of the Capital Region of New York takes it seriously. I grew up in the area and I can tell you that most people outside of New York City and Albany think NYS’s gun control laws are horse-crap. It gives me a sense of hope to actually see signs in people’s yards calling for the repeal of the SAFE Act.
“Disheartening as this end-run around state gun control is, it is all the more frustrating that some New York representatives, including John Faso, R-Kinderhook, and Elise Stefanik, R-Willsboro, support this Wild West idea. They put their judgment — or perhaps their desire to stay in the NRA’s good graces — above that of the state Legislature. Where does that leave standard conservative rhetoric about states’ rights?”
First of all, what if it’s not an NRA conspiracy but principles that make Faso and Stefanik support CCW reciprocity? Maybe these up state representatives belive in concealed carry? No, wait, they have to be branded as traitors to NY.
Also. I’m tired of hearing “states rights” about gun control. SCOTUS says that the rights in the bill of rights apply to the states as well. You can’t claim “states rights” and ban the press or impose speech codes or a state religion. You can’t use “states rights” to violate the 19th amendment and prohibit women from voting in state elections. These people are so wrong it’s unbelievable.
“Stringent rules as in $6,000 worth of bribes to get a NY License, right?”
Too be fair, outside of New York Shitty…I mean City, it *only* costs about $150 to get a pistol permit, and in a majority of upstate, they do give them out pretty easily. But this Albany newspaper, along with other upstate papers like The Buffalo Refuse and Rochester’s Democrap and Chronicle are most definitely purveyors of the fake. No surprise to see this Times Union article written the way it is.
