The missus and I had to go out to the local Wally World from some grocery items and even through the deep fog of exhaustion, I had to start paying attention because I was getting a totally new set of inputs about people and locations. You are not on your old stomping grounds. New threats await!
My first impression of the local Wally World? Being a Saturday night on a small and almost suburban town was that there might be a substance abuse problem afoot. Saw 2 couples with some body language indicators of possible use of processed decongestants and that brought to mind the fact the small .380 mouse gun in my pocket may or may not be enough to deal with a potential Son of Meth if he chooses to become a violent actor. There will be caliber and quantity updates for sure.
It is going to be a new learning curve which actually I will enjoy riding. Shedding 2 decades of preset alarms and substituting them with a new set of indicators is bound to be loads of fun.
My CC instructor, a LE vet of 40+ years, tried to ridicule my 40 S&W as unnecessary, to powerful (shoot through), to big, to heavy, blah blah blah. I just smiled and kept loading the mag.

Situational awareness is your 1st line of defense when in green alert status, other options should start to come into play when you go to yellow alert (heightened awareness, leave the area, verbal deescalation), then orange (call 911, commence video, seek shelter, etc) when things start turning sideways, pepper spray and other physical means of defense come into play when you go to red alert, as always your firearm should be your final physical defense option (condition black), prepaid legal insurance is your last line of defense no matter what happens in an altercation.
Condition blue is when you are asleep in a potentially hostile unfamiliar setting, condition indigo is when you are secure in your home and condition violet is when you are asleep in your bed –
( N.B. all alert statuses (green to black) may happen within nanoseconds)
you should be in condition white ONLY if you are physically unconscious or dead
As always your mileage may vary
One thing I’ve found from all my travels is that no matter where you are, encountering mutants at WallyWorld on Saturday nights is a constant.
I live in a nice suburb, and I avoid the Walmart a block away unless I take a break from work and hit it on a weekday morning.
The only time I hit it on a weekend would be if I’m in a hurry, they have something I need far cheaper, or I’m in a mood for entertainment value.

No shortage of good options out there. So far I’ve been very pleased with the SIG P365XL … the miniGlocks (or Polymer80 version) are also catching my interest recently
My everyday carry is just a plain old S&W Chief’s Special with five .38 +P in it. They used to be really cheap guns, now they are expensive.

Never go to Walmart after 8 o’clock in the morning. And certainly don’t go at the beginning of the month. I found that the Carson City Walmart was super sketchy on a Saturday afternoon and the one in Henderson has nothing on that one. Odd because you would think a small racially homogenous small town would not attract that element like the big cities would but I think what happens is you get a lot more meth trash in the rural areas.
I guess that I am lucky. My Walmart is just a regular store. No walmartians or idiots. Go there all the time. Of course, I live in a relatively small town.
