If you don’t live in Florida you may want to think that Alligator Alley is just a cute name given to a stretch of I-75 for tourism purposes. If you are a Floridian, specially one touting from the south end of the state, you should know different. You see, Alligator Alley is about a 75 mile long piece of highway with pretty much nothing but pavement, swamp on both sides and a long-ass fence also on both sides to keep alligators out of the road and cars from being food-delivery devices for the local fauna. Or as my wife says, to keep dumb drivers from becoming gator meals.

75 miles of this does not make for a proper escape route

Now, how dumb can you be to take that damned road to “avoid” cops? You have Collier County Sheriff on the west side (Where the chase originated), you have Broward County Sheriff on the other side and patrolling the highway is Florida State Troopers! And not for nothing, cops have this thing called radio that allows them to talk to each other plus I am sure they also have cell phones.

The only smart thing they did was to pull over and surrender to the Troopers.

May God keep them stupid, it makes life for everybody easier.
