ABC Board Successfully Operates During Pandemic; Sets Financial Milestone

ABC Fiscal Year (FY) 2020 gross revenues for retail, wholesale and military liquor sales was $596.1 million while FY 2019 gross revenues were $531.2 million which resulted in a retail sales increase of $64.9 million.

Despite ABC temporarily closing 78 retail stores last March and reassigning those employees to open stores, to seeing its warehouse staffing shrink 27% as the pandemic continued from summer to fall, the agency shipped 3,304,241 cases of liquor in FY 2020.

In FY 2019, ABC shipped 332,022 fewer cases while the agency operated at full capacity.

So people sitting at home with nothing to do, many having lost jobs, turned to alcohol.  The result was a nearly 10% increase in alcohol consumption.

This was not spread out evenly among the population.  We know that some people really hit the sauce hard because of the anxiety and depression from 2020.

We paid for possibly preventing some people from getting COVID by making sure others would suffer liver damage and alcoholism.

I don’t believe that the cost to society to try and “slow the spread” for a year – which has been an utter failure  – is worth what we got for our efforts.

We went grocery shopping last night.  Usually, we go on Saturday, but we had some other stuff to do and it is supposed to be freezing rain in north Alabama today we thought it would be better just to do it last night.

We generally get the same stuff every week.  Me, wife, two kids, we’re pretty consistent on eggs, milk, bread, various juices, butter, staple items.

We had been consistent in the $120-$140 per week range.  Every once in a while, we’d have a $180-$200 week if we were restocking on multivitamins and other speciality items that are unusually expensive.

Recently we’ve been doing $160-$180 a week and I didn’t feel like I was buying anything extraordinary.

I casually mentioned this to the lady at Kroger.  She said she has heard that a lot recently.  Food prices have definitely gone up, and have really spiked in the last few weeks.

Gas and energy prices affect food prices.  So do lockdowns, restrictions, layoffs, and everything else that has been done because of COVID.

One of the hard and fast rules of economics is “food prices go up when the economy goes down.”

Right now food prices are at a record high and gas has only started to go up in price.

Biden has also promised to “fight the virus” by blocking interstate travel and continuing lockdowns, even after people get vaccinated.

I hope not having the President Tweet mean things is worth it to people because right now it’s costing me about $40 a week more at the grocery store.

When a family of four has a $1,000 per month grocery budget I wonder if any of those people will wish they had the mean Tweets again in exchange for lower prices.

At least these are better guns than the NYPD usually confiscates.

We probably get accused of being part of the Iron Pipeline that sends gun in the back of truck to poor areas in NY and distributes them free to children.

And speaking of children, did you notice all but one of the ones with firearm charges are under 21? And none had a carry permit? I thought there were laws and stuff that stopped that stuff, specially in NYC.

Fourteen New York Democrats are seeking to strip Gov. Andrew Cuomo of emergency powers granted to him throughout the COVID-19 pandemic after a top aide revealed his administration withheld data about nursing home deaths in New York from Justice Department investigators.

While COVID-19 has tested the limits of our people and state– and, early during the pandemic, required the government to restructure decision making to render rapid, necessary public health judgements– it is clear that the expanded emergency powers granted to the Governor are no longer appropriate,” a joint statement by the state Senators said.

14 Democrats in NY Senate want repeal of Cuomo’s emergency powers

New York is/was supposed to be the shinny example of everything good that comes with Liberalism in the era of Kung Flu. When the pandemic was getting started, rather than support Trump on travel restrictions, they condemned him as racist. NYC was probably the first using the double standard of political Non-contagious mass gatherings by telling people celebrating Chinese New Year was totally safe. Then Cuomo went all the opposite and pretty much shut down the state and de Blasio did the same with the city to a level that not even the destruction of the Twin Towers by Bin Laden could do.

And when Florida’s Governor decided to escape the COVID reservation, It was the image of Cuomo who stood in contrast with what crazy “DeathSantis” was doing. We were told pretty much “You just wait! By the end of summer, Florida will be a field of death while New York will be a shinning example of health. We will come back stronger than ever and Florida will be a wasteland.”

New York cried and was given resources to fight the pandemic that would make smaller nations cry in thanks. They were either misused or ignored. Why?  My guess is they did not want to look like they owed anything to Orange Man.

And I believe that above all, it was propaganda so the Democrats could say “See? We can be effective in emergencies! We can save people! Just look at New York!”

But while the media  ignored and probably hid the real happenings, after the election there was no longer that need and it was time to destroy Cuomo before he believed himself to be valid White House material to run against Kamala. It is getting harder and harder to use New York as example of how do things right during a pandemic when NYC looks like an abandoned post apocalyptic  city that got hit by a unspeakably malady.

Actually they did get hit. Democrats are in charge.  There are more people this morning going to the average flea market in South Florida than in Times Square in NYC.

Under Donald Trump, Israel signed peace and trade deals with several of its Arab neighbors and would have signed with Saudi Arabia by now had Trump been reelected.

Biden is following in Obama’s footsteps of disassociating from Israel and is going to set the Middle East on fire again.

And don’t tell me how many Jews Biden has as top advisors.  Obama did the same.  They are all non-practicing Leftists.

The missus and I were thinking of doing some weekend trips around Florida to enjoy many of the pretty locations the state has to offer and simply to enjoy ourselves outside the home.

I guess that budget got cut drastically.
