My suggestion: Let bygones be bygones an start fresh

I have been thinking about this a lot.

Towards the end of the Civil War, Lincon said at his second inaugural address:

“With malice toward none with charity for all with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right let us strive on to finish the work we are in to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan ~ to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”

As you go through Conservative social media, you see the same videos posted over and over again.

Riots from Trump’s inauguration.  Riots from Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, Kenosha, Chicago, etc., this summer.  Video of the CHAZ/CHOP and statues being pulled down.

Congresswoman Maxine Watters saying “Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”

All the coverage of the pee-pee tapes and Trump/Russia collusion, including Congressmen Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff saying they had evidence.

What happened on Wednesday didn’t happen apropos of nothing.  It was pent up anger from the previous four years of #Resistance at all costs.

The way I see it, we have three choices of how to move forward:

One:

We let bygones be bygones.  Tone down the rhetoric, dismiss or reduce most of the charges against the Capitol stormers, and draw a line in the sand that any political violence from this day forward – regardless of who is doing it – is met with the full force of law, and any inciteful rhetoric from any member of the government will be met with the full disciplinary force of the body.

Two:

We hold people accountable.  Censure and expulsion charges are brought against Watters, Pelosi, AOC, Omar, Tlaib, Schiff, and Swalwell as well as Republicans.  Antifa and BLM are subject to mass arrests and full federal charges.  There is equitable bipartisan punishment.

Three:

This becomes a purge of the Right.  The Right becomes an oppressed minority.  The Left refuses to let go of the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless, a boot stamping on a Trump voter’s face, forever.  There is pushback, more violence, and The Troubles come to America.

I believe the best option is number One.

Congress takes a break and goes on vacation until the inauguration.  No talking shit to the media.  They stop pouring fuel on the fire.  They reconvene on the 20th and we start fresh with equal application of the rules and law and one common moral standard.

Or this all goes to shit.

Powells Books under attack for selling a doubleplusungood book

Andy Ngo wrote a book about Antifa and they are not happy about it, so much so they actually went to Powells books in Portland and forced it shut. Customers were secreted outside via the back door while the goons were at the front being fascists.

I watched the video below and I did not wanted to believe that the little imbecile at 3:10 actually defended Mein Kampf because it was historic and not bad compared to Ngo’s book which she called “active facism.”

You cannot make this stuff up unless you have been chugging on peyote for a week and staring into the sun for 12 hours in the Gobi Desert.

It is a great question.  It is a question that should be asked a lot.

Is Ted Wheeler to blame?  Yes, partly.

We cannot have a country in which our laws and their enforcement is bifurcated, where political violence is condoned on one side but not on another.

Genevieve Reaume hit the nail on the head and I’d say she really deserves another Emmy for this (if it weren’t tarnished by having been given to Cuomo).

Lindsey Graham has a moment of clarity

Supporting the impeachment of President Trump under these circumstances will do great damage to the institutions of government and could invite further violence at a time the President is calling for calm.

If there was a time for America’s political leaders to bend a knee and ask for God’s counsel and guidance, it is now. The most important thing for leaders to do in times of crisis is to make things better, not worse.

The process being used in the House to impeach President Trump is an affront to any concept of due process and will further divide the country.

The President, who will be leaving office in less than a week, has committed to an orderly transfer of power, encouraging calm and rejecting violence.

The House impeachment process seeks to legitimize a snap impeachment totally void of due process. No hearings. No witnesses. It is a rushed process that, over time, will become a threat to future presidents.

As to Senate leadership, I fear they are making the problem worse, not better.

The last thing the country needs is an impeachment trial of a president who is leaving office in one week.

Democrats have already impeached the President once over a matter which was not worthy of that process.

Now they seek to do it again, believing that this effort will wash for history the fact that the first impeachment was based on the thinnest of pretenses: a phone call with the leader of Ukraine.
Impeachment should never be a ‘do-over,’ but that is what Democrats are seeking to do today.

To my Republican colleagues who legitimize this process, you are doing great damage not only to the country, the future of the presidency, but also to the party.

The millions who have supported President Trump and his agenda should not be demonized because of the despicable actions of a seditious mob.
The individuals who participated in the storming of the Capitol should be met with the full force of the law. They should and will be held accountable.

 

Every word of that is correct.

They need to listen to Graham on this one, he’s absolutely right.
