As reported in Mother Jones:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Just Gave a Passionate Speech About Why Housing is a Human Right
“Our access and our guarantee to having a home comes before someone else’s privilege to earn a profit.”

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) spoke with New Yorkers about her efforts in Congress to increase access to affordable housing at a town hall in the Bronx Thursday evening. Housing, she says, should be legislated as a human right. “What does that mean? It means that our access and our guarantee to having a home comes before someone else’s privilege to earn a profit,” said Ocasio-Cortez.

You know where else access to housing was guaranteed over the ability to make a profit?

The Soviet Union.

The problem was, building guaranteed housing was expensive so corners were cut.

Building were just concrete slab construction with exposed plumbing (that often didn’t work), exposed gas lines, and frequently exposed wiring.

They were cold in the winter, hot in the summer, cramped and miserable.

But they were guaranteed

Life inside a Kiev Khrushchyovka: Soviet architecture in Ukraine
An insight into one family’s everyday life in a Soviet-era housing block in Kiev.

Square and simple. Red bricks. Five flights of stairs. No elevator. Branches and dry leaves climb along the facades, between balconies. The structures are drab, dreary, bleak, dilapidated. They all look the same.

The bulk of the Ukrainian capital’s housing stock dates from the times of Soviet leaders Joseph Stalin, Nikita Khrushchev, and Leonid Brezhnev. These housing blocks – containing dozens of apartments with four to six square-metre kitchens, thin brick walls, midget hallways and one to three rooms – are known as Khrushchyovkas and represent a big percentage of total housing in Kiev today: 3,055 buildings that include some 211,512 apartments.

These apartments were known as Khrushchyovka, meaning Khrushchev’s slums.

Words do not do justice to how bad these places are.

Here are some videos from inside these Khrushchyovka:

So no room, no privacy, no quality of life, tiny cramped miserable places for people to live.

As a member of the Democrat Politburo, she will have her luxury apartment in New York and Washington and have her Dacha out in the Hamptons.

You and I, however, will have to accept our fate to live in a 500 sq-ft concrete block Ocasiyovka, because housing is our right.  It will be terrible, but at least nobody will make a profit.

Get yourself a can

If the rumors are true and the Virginia Beach shooter used a suppressor, it is time to buy yours now before the ATF goes all bump-stock ban on them and makes getting an NFA item impossibly difficult.

I have two now, an AAC Ti-Rant 9mm and Ti-Rant 45.

I have on order an AAC Jager 30 and have been saving up for a 762-SD.

Some things to remember about cans.

You can shoot sub caliber through them, as long as they are pressure rated for it.  So if you have both a 9mm and 45 ACP, you can shoot 9mm through a 45 can without an issue, as long as you get the proper thread adapter to fit your barrel.  If in doubt, get the bigger can.  The sound performance is hardly changed at all.  I’ve shot 9mm and 40 S&W through my Ti-Rant 45 and can’t tell the difference.

Same with rifle cans.  You can shoot 5.56 through a 7.62 can.  Having done so, the sound of the 5.56 bullet going supersonic is louder than the extra gas released by the slightly larger bore diameter.  If a can is rated for 308 Win or 300 Win mag you can shoot 300 AAC, but not the reverse.

Rifle cans will be heavier than pistol cans and anything “full auto rated” heavier still.  That is because to make a can able to handle the heat and pressure they have to use Inconel.

Rifle cans are usually (but not always) less modular and set up for one type of mount.

The Jager 30 is AAC’s newest can.  It is rated for slow rate of fire shooting of up to 300 Win Mag.  This is because it is made of titanium and aluminum.  It is a great entry level can for someone who doesn’t want to spend much but wants more than a rimfire can.

The advantage is that it is a magnum rated rifle can for under $500, which is about the price for most rimfire cans.

My personal recommendation, if you are not sure, a good pistol can is the way to go.  Pistols suppress much better than rifles because of the availability of subsonic ammo.  They are also cheaper.

The Ti-Rant 45 will actually handle subsonic only 300 AAC (if you shoot supersonic through it and blow up your can, you have been warned) if you get the right thread pitch adapter.

Rimfire cans are generally entry level because of their low price.

If you want a rifle can, get the highest rated you can afford.  You can always go down without an issue.  If you only ever want to shoot 5.56 get a 5.56 can.  If you have the inkling to shoot 300 AAC, just get a 30 cal can and be happy.

If you have any questions, just leave them in the comments.  I will do my best to respond.

Old News: The Song Of My People.

Helping with this research has been illuminating. And I have found some stories that would make great miniseries, one of them possibly the origin why the Mafia says there is no percentage on killing a cop.

The story behind this was that threats had been issued by some local family against a judge and his family overseeing a case. The judge was securely in town, but the Sheriff, the newly elected sheriff and a deputy went over the judge’s house to collect his wife and kid. On their way, they were ambushed and the old Sheriff got the brunt of the Winchesters.

Since the sheriff was well liked, people in town did not appreciate this and hunt began. Duly authorized posse went after the whole family and they got most everybody.

Another thing that I learned was that lynching was not a monochromatic affair. Surely the majority  of the lynchings were against blacks, but other colors were well represented.
