Similar to two of my favorite aphorisms, from two great philosophers:

Every time some one asks me if I’m paranoid, I tell them the story of a young Marine that was set upon by some thugs and left bleeding and unconscious on the side of the road on a Sunday night in 1975. Beaten just because he was a Marine out hitch hiking his way back to base. It’s not paranoid, it’s prepared.
Why do so many carry a cellphone nowadays, in case it is needed not that it will be needed,I think it is the same way with a gun nowadays.
