Oleg Volk at work.

I always find the process tends to be as revealing and interesting as the product it creates. Our imagination either wonders in complication or simply cannot fathom it.  One may think to be disappointed about the simplicity, but you realize that is part of the beauty itself: It is not the gear or the mechanics on their own but the artistry of its us and the eye of the creator behind it.

  1. One of my best friends brought him to dinner at our house years ago. He took some pictures of our kids that we still treasure.

  2. I remember him saying one of his most famous pictures was taken with his cell phone camera. it is not the tool, it is the artist wielding it.

  3. Great art requires both vision and skill, that’s why Johnny Cash is a greater singer than Michael Bolton despite his technical flaws as a singer. Similarly Oleg Volk can do more with his phone than Leicaphilia.com whipping boy Thorstein Von Overgaard with $50k of Leica in his signature camera bag
