I saw this meme posted by Sean Sorrentino:

I have seen the mentioning of usage of horse dewormer under the name Ivermectin for COVID in some places, but mostly ignored as another fad or just plain propaganda on one or more side of the Kung Flu show. But knowing Sean, I figured I should check a bit behind the meme even knowing that Nobel Prizes go to people and not products. What did I find?

William C. Campbell – Facts (nobelprize.org)

William C. Campbell
The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2015
A number of serious infectious diseases are caused by parasites spread by insects. River blindness is caused by a tiny worm that can infect the cornea and cause blindness. Lymphatic filariasis, or elephantiasis, is also caused by a worm and produces chronic swelling. Satoshi Omura cultured bacteria, which produce substances that inhibit the growth of other microorganisms. In 1978 he succeeded in culturing a strain from which William Campbell purified a substance, avermectin, which in a chemically modified form, ivermectin, proved effective against river blindness and elephantiasis.

And next:

Interesting, wouldn’t you say? The question is not if the medicine is effective or not. I believe more than likely it won’t since it has a very specific non-viral target. The question is what do the Propaganda Warlords think of you: “You are a fucking dunce who do not understand the complexities of modern medicine so in order to keep you away from making silly decisions that we don’t like, we are going to badmouth a medication whose designers got a Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and it is actually curing people all over the world and even animals from other maladies.

This right here is why people are not taking vaccination seriously nor other health related advice. The people running Covid information are rejects of Madison Avenue who believe anybody living past the Potomac or the Hudson are a bunch or rubes that cannot be told the truth or at least some accurate information.

  1. If the CDC and FDA had investigated, researched, and developed an official dosing guideline for Ivermectin, and not summarily banned doctors from doing their jobs, desperate people wouldn’t have to turn to self-dosing of animal medicines that contain Ivermectin. Instead they’ve suppressed science and left a vacuum of information creating an environment for an underground/black market.

All the sheep I’ve heard talking about this believe Ivermectin is useless because Covid isn’t caused by a parasite. There’s no info on mainstream sources that actually break down how it actually functions in a patients system to keep them from dying.

  2. It works against corona … I think Fauci even published a paper on its effectiveness the last go round about 10 yrs ago. Too lazy to look for it.

However, more recently, “A five-day course of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19 may reduce the duration of illness” — see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33278625/.

Also, “Ivermectin: a systematic review from antiviral effects to COVID-19 complementary regimen” — see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32533071/ where the authors state, “Ivermectin proposes many potentials effects to treat a range of diseases, with its antimicrobial, antiviral, and anti-cancer properties as a wonder drug. It is highly effective against many microorganisms including some viruses. In this comprehensive systematic review, antiviral effects of ivermectin are summarized including in vitro and in vivo studies over the past 50 years. Several studies reported antiviral effects of ivermectin on RNA viruses such as Zika, dengue, yellow fever, West Nile, Hendra, Newcastle, Venezuelan equine encephalitis, chikungunya, Semliki Forest, Sindbis, Avian influenza A, Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome, Human immunodeficiency virus type 1, and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2.”

It stops CoVid. In mid-Africa, where the is essentially no medical care, the rates of CoVid are very low likely because it is used over the counter to prevent malaria. I believe some states in India just about added to the water to knock down their infection rate. The comparison between states that used it and did not use it are stunning.

This is NOT medical advice. It is political commentary. No one in legacy media has published the success of Ivermectin in COVid – why? It is shameful when conspiracy theories make more sense than the propaganda from establishment.

  3. “I believe more than likely it won’t since it has a very specific non-viral target.”

We need to be a little careful here to distinguish the typical use from physiological effects.

Its primary use seems to be as an antiparasitic. Fine. But that doesn’t mean that’s all it will do. Consider aspirin – good for aches and pains, but it’s also a blood thinner and can be a long-term therapeutic to help guard against heart disease.

Recalling that Ivermectin was originally developed from what amounts to be an antimicrobial substance, as indicated in the NP citations, it would not surprise me if it turned out to be useful against some transmissible diseases.

Is that the case here? Not sure, but the studies that could / should have been carried out post-haste could have perhaps answered that question. What studies and surveys we do have, are certainly suggestive.

And I am not a medical doctor, etc cetera.

  4. I like Ivermectin – unlike liberal democrats, it works.
This isn’t about curing a virus, it’s about you voluntarily allowing yourself to be injected with poison.
The great reset requires a culling of blood.

  5. Ivermectin has been used effectively in India to knock back their last Chinese Coronavirus wave of infections. I believe Brazil also has had some success?

But why listen to the Indian Doctors and Epidemiologists? Why don’t the highly credentialed folks at the CDC listen and learn from people who have effectively slowed and almost stopped the epidemic in their nation? Are they too racist and too insular, so refuse to learn from a bunch of foreigners?

Or are they so corrupt, that they refuse to use a known, safe GENERIC drug, because there are no profits in it for their buddies and future employers in the Pharmaceutical Industry?

Is it Racism, or is it Corruption?

  6. ‘I believe more than likely it won’t since it has a very specific non-viral target.’

So pain-reliever aspirin is no good for heart attack prevention?

    1. Exactly. A lot of drugs are used in “off label” applications, which is entirely legal in the USA. If a doctor judges it worth trying, he may prescribe an approved drug for any reason, whether or not that application has any connection to the original approval.
A few weeks ago I read an article that mentioned vaccinations were useful against COVID. It wasn’t talking about COVID vaccines in particular, it said that vaccinations of any kind have broader benefits. Apparently what’s happening is that getting vaccinated against something, anything, will rev up your immune system (makes sense to me) and this boost is generally helpful, not just helpful against that particular disease. So people who get, say, flu vaccines or TB vaccines are less likely to be vulnerable to infections of any kind than those who aren’t getting vaccines.
I think this was an op-ed in the WSJ.

  7. It was lovely to see that FDA ‘you are not a horse’ tweet, and observe methodical denigration of ivm safety by fda and CDC, while remembering, that CDC requires dosing refugees with ivm in the same ‘unsafe’ concentration as is recommended for Covid prevention.

‘All Middle Eastern, Asian, North African, Latin American, and Caribbean refugees should receive presumptive therapy with:
Albendazole, single dose of 400 mg (200 mg for children 12-23 months)
    AND
Ivermectin, two doses 200 mcg/Kg orally once a day for 2 days before departure to the United States.’

Just a a first mention of ivm out of 47 on this page https://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/guidelines/overseas-guidelines.html

  8. So, penicillin (and the derivatives of it) are all just mold.

    Got it.

Also, further proof that the media is nothing more than a bunch of lying A-holes.
Local paper headline says the City’s ICU beds are overwhelmed, only three available for a city of more than 300K. ZOMG! COVID!!! Scary.

Check the official government COVID dashboard. Only 29 people who tested positive are hospitalized in total. If, and that is a big IF, all of them were in the ICU, that would represent about 10% of total ICU capacity.

    They are all lying.

  9. “I believe more than likely it won’t since it has a very specific non-viral target.”

As others have pointed out above, the “target” doesn’t matter. What matters is the biological pathways by which it functions.

If the same biological pathway that makes ivermectin effective against parasites also makes it effective against a virus, or if the drug affects multiple pathways, one of which keeps the virus in check — as seems to be the case with coronavirus — then it’s a good therapeutic for the virus, too. It’s not too different from hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), which is an anti-malaria drug, but the way it functions also makes it effective against coronavirus infection.

With drugs, as with all things, there’s “what it’s intended to do”, and there’s “what it does or can do”, and that Venn diagram is rarely a single overlapping circle.
