If kids are present: Your guns is either locked where the little critter can access it pr is it in your person under your control.
So, if you do not live in a State with Constitutional Carry, that means you need your local permit to carry and the gun holstered properly if by any reason it os not in the box locked. There is no middle alternative with a kid present.
I say this because I unfortunately know people in Florida who won’t cough up the dough to get a CWL. The law allows Floridians to have a firearm in the car without a permit if it is in a secure container and it cannot be easily accessible. That includes the center console and it does not have to be locked. That means it will be either forgotten and maybe stolen while you watch The Real Wives of Hoboken or your precocious toddler will open the console or glove compartment, find the gun and play with the darned thing.
If not on you, in the lockbox.
PS: Bother Sal sent me a great quote that fits like a charm:

Common sense is not common anymore. Parents dont parent like they used to. Some useless dem will submit a law to “change” the law and make it stupider. Funny how this gets more press than a “mass shooting” in jersey….
