ST. LOUIS • Police took 143 people into custody Tuesday night after a group of protesters blocked the eastbound lanes of Highway 40 (Interstate 64) at Kingshighway and charged them with trespassing. That’s the highest number of arrests at once since protests began Sept. 15 over the not-guilty ruling in the murder case against former city patrolman Jason Stockley.

Here is when it got funny:

Protesters were nearing Market Street when they were met by a police line and they moved onto the sidewalk.

The protesters chanted: “We don’t see a riot here. Why are you in riot gear?” and “Touch one, touch all.”

And the cops did.

Right now somebody in jail must be thinking to himself “Who was the genius that came up with that shit?”

  1. “We don’t see a riot here. Why are you in riot gear?”

Because, dumbasses, it only take a minor spark to go from protest to riot. Given recent history, pretty much every protest turns into a riot. Waiting to prepare for a riot until it’s actually happening is too late.
