Bad ideas never die for good in the Florida Legislature. They are just resurrected the next year with new bill numbers. That is the case with a renewed effort to stand the criminal justice system on its head by making it easier for defendants to hide behind Florida’s ”stand your ground” law and get away with murder.

Lemme do a bit of creative substitution:

Bad ideas never die for good in the Florida Legislature. They are just resurrected the next year with new bill numbers. That is the case with a renewed effort to stand the criminal justice system on its head by making it easier for defendants to hide behind the Miranda Warning and get away with murder.

That is the case with a renewed effort to stand the criminal justice system on its head by making it easier for defendants to hide behind Florida’s ”shall not be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself” law and get away with murder.

Somehow, I do believe they would love to get away with the “corrected” versions also.

  1. When I moved to Florida 20 years ago there were three dead-tree papers in the Tampa St Pete area. The St Pete Times, Tampa Tribune and… they rolled belly up so long ago even Wikipedia has forgotten them.

The Time and Tribune merged as the market kept contracting on them.

It’s a matter of time before they’re gone.

    1. I used to savor the Tribune on Sunday, separating the sections in the order I’d read them, usually starting with the Opinion section, on to Metro, Comics, the Sports and ending with the puzzles and crossword. Very enjoyable Sunday morning ritual, while listening to the Sunday morning political talk. That was back then the Tampa Tribune was considered the “conservative” paper and the St. Pete Times as the liberal rag. That was decades ago though. Now the Trib has crossed over to the dark side long since. And the Sunday morning shows are unlistenable. George Will used to be one of the good guys, that’s how long ago all that was.
