Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

  1. I, for one, am impressed.

    (A) the ka-boom. Lit lot lot of pressure

    (B) his wounds.

    (C) his presence of mind, non panic, and effective response to the crisis.

  2. So…can we assume that very old ammo might be dangerous?
I wish him well, and I hope to have as much presence of mind and coolness in the face of danger as he had!

  3. Lesson-Do Not Shoot Rounds Designed to be fired in HMG.
A SLAP rounds is a 7.62 50cal sabot, gassing out around 3900fps. Pressure, well he knows now.

  4. Some thing most people don’t know:

Military multi base powders can get higher pressure the older they are. There’s a reason these things have a shelf life.

Also high temperatures (like left in the sun high) can change the composition of the powder which also results in higher pressure.

That said, I too have fired countless rounds of god knows how old military rounds – even 100 year old 8mm Lebel cartridge out of an 1893 Lebel rifle. 😀
