The gift from the President of France to the US: A sapling from Belleau Wood where the US Marines made their name in WWI at the cost of 9,777 casualties, included 1,811 killed who rest in the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery.
We will refrain from making jokes against the French till tomorrow.
Two classy French acts in a month, who would have known! This and that cop that substituted himself for a hostage, both events worthy of praise. See how nice people can be when they leave hyper-politics out of things?
I sorta disagree about the officer. Calling that move “classy”, simply minimizes his courage, and deliberately placing himself in harms way, in order to save an innocent. Well, in my view, that is Medal Of Honor level stuff. Notwithstanding the facts that (a) he was not a US Service member, and (b) not in armed combat against enemies of America. Having said that, it strikes me as of that level of Heroism.
Agreed, and as I recall his bravery was honored by France in that manner (the “Legion d’Honneur” awarded posthumously).
No minimization was intended, I get your point. It took more balls than most have. I agree.
