I wonder who sent the Ricin?

If it came from some radical Lefty, I think attempting to assassinate the Secretary of Defense (and Trump’s most popular person in Trump’s Cabinet) is the kind of think that will kick off a shit storm.

The good news is that Mad Dog Mattis is immune to Ricin and I’m pretty sure he uses it as a seasoning.  One time, while deployed to Afghanistan, General Mattis was bitten by a sand viper.  After a week of unbearable pain, the snake died.

We will have to follow the news on this one closely.

  1. I hope everyone Conservative is on alert. I know mail I send takes anywhere from 2-6 days to arrive at the destination. I hope there aren’t, but there may be more.

I remember the 2001 Anthrax attacks. The training the corporation gave our mail handlers and secretaries was theater, but they did give them blue rubber gloves.

I saw the Houston field tests were negative, but the FBI results are not known.

  2. Really a low risk crime . The FBI will hound some unrelated dude to his death, claim he did it, and close the case.

    1. Safer than admitting Clinton’s policies let a foreign power develop bio weapons far enough to attack us with. But Mueller’s busy, and can only manipulate one investigation at a time.

  3. Sorry for the following but I believe it needs saying.

The more talk there is on BOTH sides of a civil war in the US the more likely it is that there will be major unpleasantness (IMHO). Yes we as a country have some major differences of opinion on many important issues but our issues are not so major that justifies major civil disturbance (riots) or the possible nightmare of a civil war, one in which both sides would suffer far more horrendously than any thing that is currently going on.

Yes, I am aware or “Rule .308” and looking at such a terrible possibility from a wargaming point of view I would far rather be on our side than theirs in terms of possible outcome.

But the cost to both sides would be so high,no matter who wins that it would not be worth it given the current situation or anything in the near term future.

If, I repeat if, such a terrible thing should become justified (which I hope it never does) there will be enough causes that are indisputable and attributable that there will be no doubt that it is justified. But until then (again IMHO) talk about such a thing is not a good idea and could easily lead to a viscous cycle where both sides escalate due to the verbiage instead of actions.

Such talk also makes our side look very bad from those in the middle and would tend to drive many reasonable people against our side.

Please, let’s try to use the ballot box instead of the ammo box.

    1. I hear people say “there’s a lot of ruin in a nation” as if to say “it takes a lot to ruin a nation”. I don’t think it was meant that way: I believe it means “the ruin of a nation involves more tragedies and horrors than you can comprehend”. I think of the Balkans, of cities shelled from their surrounding hills, of snipers on those hills killing people out for their shopping, of mass graves filled just because you were too close to the “other side” — and see Cincinnati, Peoria, St. Louis, Nashville, and on and on and on going through those horrors.

People talk about cutting off the food supplies to the cities. OK, but if they don’t capitulate, how long? Have you read about Leningrad? Are you willing to starve people? How many of those people are just apolitical average Joes caught on a “side” they never thought about? Children?

Not to say no one should defend themselves, not to say I wouldn’t join in your defense. But the people who *WANT* something to start? *shudder*

(And for the leftists: Have you seen the flags and signs from your side that are takes on the Gadsden flag? The ones showing jackboots or high heels crushing a rattler with the words “WE WILL TREAD ON YOU”? Might that indicate your allies are, shall we say, “baddies”?)

    2. If you are conflating the reason people on the Right are now talking about it with the verbiage from the Left, you are wrong.
A lot of the Left are now being honest in public about their hatred for us, and their intent to harm us to the maximum of their ability (it’s why they have an affinity for Islam, “convert or die”).
My take on the Right side is that most of it is a simple warning that the people on the Left are going to get hurt VERY badly if they continue with their idiocy, and would you please stop it, as we really don’t want to stomp on you.
Unfortunately, only the less radical (and more numerous) lefties have the ability to rein in the radicals, and I don’t think they will even make the attempt. What they don’t understand is that they will be lumped in with them at that point. The Left has a complete inability to see or understand human history, so they will not be able to understand what the end result will be (being clueless about history is a defining trait of the Left).

Anyway, that is basically why I have been posting comments along that line for a while now.

      1. We’ve been talking about this for more than a few years now. The only real difference is more mainstream people are starting to talk about it too and get into distinctions of cold vs hot civil war.

I don’t think we are close enough to that point yet because there hasn’t been the violence that we saw in the 60s and 70s and even then I think it would need to surpass that.

I also am suspicious of the abilities of the radical left to unify effectively since we’ve been seen more infighting and excommunication from that side than any other.

  4. It’s possible that the ricin came from Putin. It’s a well known KGB tool. And while random wackos might target Mattis, the targeting of a top Navy officer is not so obvious — he isn’t that much in the public eye.
