The problem with man-to-man polite talks is that they do not work if one of the parties is not interested in talking but aggression. Asshole’s attitude was obvious and trying to calm him down or reason with him was for nought. And Asshole misdirected the gentleman’s attention to execute his attack with success. There is bodily harm inflicted, make no mistake.
Create distance, have barriers in between, lock doors, leave the area, call police.
Self defense is not a sporting event.
I never understood the point of getting really close to a guy who wants to fight you. The posturing was something I always observed in others and my friends & I talked about it like we were discussing the various types of animal showdowns on Discovery Channel. It didn’t take a genius to figure out that it left you in a poor position.
“Self defense is not a sporting event.” Exactly.
I say the same when someone says something like “If you were a man, you wouldn’t need a gun and would fight man-to-man and not use a gun like a coward.”
I have no intent to be “sporting” or have a “fair” fight if I’m attacked.
I was told by a great man (my Father) that if your in a fair fight, you’ve made a bad choice.
