I strongly disagree with Montgomery County’s decision to mandate the closure of private and parochial schools. My full statement: pic.twitter.com/4pESSu93Tj

Montgomery County, Maryland is the highest population county in the state, it borders Washington DC to the north.
This is not a victory for school kids thr way many people in the replies have made it out to be.
The Governor interceded on behalf of the Washington DC elite who send their kids to top tier private schools that feed into the Ivy Leagues.
Regular middle class and working class people who can’t afford $20k or more per year in tuition, their kids are still stuck at home because the public schools won’t open.
The governor went to bat for his donor class to make sure their kids could still get into Harvard in the fall.
That’s all this is.
Not sure I agree.
All schools should be opened, across the board. However, I recognize that taxpayer funded schools may have a bit more difficulty opening, versus private schools. I see Montgomery County refusing to allow private schools opening as more oppression from the government. They are simply looking out for the teacher’s unions.
You are not necessarily incorrect in criticizing the Governor’s statement though. I just think your criticism does not go far enough.
Living in the DC area this is not even about that. It is simple pandering to Republicans/conservatives who Hogan has upset significantly since his reelection.
I doubt he has a massive donor class that would be significant enough to pander to.
His goal is to be as popular as possible. Have to appeal to the masses.
