An 18-year-old accused of sharing a live-stream of the Christchurch mosque mass shooting has been refused bail.
The teen faces two charges: one of sharing the gunman’s live-stream and a second for posting a photograph of one of the mosque’s attacked with the message “target acquired” along with other chat messages “inciting extreme violence”.

The teen was initially charged with publishing insulting material with intent to excite hostility or ill will against a group of persons on the basis of race, ethnicity, or national origins. That charge was withdrawn today and replaced by the two new charges.
The maximum sentence for each of the charges against the 18-year-old is 14 years’ jail.

Almost a decade and a half in jail for posting offensive shit as accorded by some sensitive-butt political types. I checked what other crimes in KiwiLand deserve such amount of time and I found the young fella is getting the same amount of years as if he had done piracy, slavery, human organ trading, sex trafficking, Aggravated wounding or injury and Female Genital Mutilation. Hell, if had committed statutory rape, he stood a chance to get a sentence of only 10 years. Playing Dr. Frankenstein with a corpse only gets you 2 years.

Most of the world, even when it pretends to have “freedom of speech”, does this sort of thing. Sometimes (as in Holland) the powers that be explicitly state that “there is no right to offend”. So what they actually offer is “freedom of approved speech” which is no freedom at all.
In Europe, political parties are routinely outlawed for being too nasty for the people in power.
I have posted the Bill of Rights in my office years ago. Occasionally, someone will stop to read it and say, “I didn’t know that!”
Post it in your workspace. It cannot — in any way, shape, or form — be an offensive post in America.
