A doctor was leaving home to compete in a shooting competition held at Magnolia Pistol Range in Byram at approximately 7:45 AM today. He made several trips from the house to his truck carrying what he needed for the competition. Unknown to him, two black males were cruising Ridgewood Road looking for someone to rob. They happened upon him walking to his truck near the intestection Ridgewood and Eastover roads. They took him captive at gunpoint and forced him drive to an ATM and withdraw a large amount of money
They stopped at Eastover and Pinewood. They told him to get out of the vehicle. The good Doc managed to grab a pistol as he exited the truck and began firing. He shot and killed an Edwin Robinson of Cooper Road. One person at the scene said “he shot the shit out of him”.

There is actually very little about this event. Only three other sources found and two of them WLOX and FoxNews give information that the potential victim was a doctor and nothing about being a competition shooter. However, there is a Magnolia Pistol Range and it was holding the Mississippi Classic USPSA State/Section Championship this past weekend so there is a chance that the above-posted story reflects reality. But, you know that experts have warned that competition shooting will get you killed in Real Life… /snerk.

It is a bit disappointing that he seems to have had all of his guns packed away instead of carrying at least one of them.
Unfortunately, most outdoor competition ranges near me don’t allow loaded, uncased firearms anywhere but the firing line and specifically ban concealed carry (Which is BS so don’t ask, don’t tell).
I am waiting for the day that some punk tries to mug Jerry Miculek, just for the headline:
“Mugger killed by intended victim, shot 15 times with snub nose revolver before he hit the ground.”
I’ve read the “competitive shooting will get you killed” line quite a bit. To my way of thinking anything that makes you quicker and more confident with a firearm is a good thing.
There’s probably a very strong correlation between those who say “that competition stuff will git you kilt on the street” and those who’s targets (at 7 yards) have holes everywhere but the middle, and who’s Bill drills you could time with a sundial.
Another thug that made a career ending decision. A happy ending for the victim.
