CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – SC Representative Wendell Gilliard sent a letter to National Rifle Association (NRA) president, Carolyn Meadows, calling upon the NRA to donate funds from recent gun sales to efforts combating the spread of the coronavirus.
Gun sales have increased 500% over the last two weeks. Gilliard suggested that the NRA donate funds towards “obtaining medical equipment for the medical professionals and helping the homeless population.”

For so many years I’ve heard the NRA referred to as “The Gun Lobby” and I’ve been told by so many talking heads on TV that the NRA belongs to the gun manufacturers.
My question, in seriousness, is how much money per year does the NRA get from manufacturers?
I know that most of the money comes from its members, but is there even a kernel to the lie that the NRA gets money from manufacturers?
The other lie is here in this article, the NRA some how makes money on every gun sold. It isn’t like there is a federal NRA tax or anything.
The anti-gun folks are citing information from the NRA tax returns. This was covered by a leftist rag following the Sandy Hook school shooting.
They mis-read the tax returns, and ignore the dues paid by members when calculating how much of the NRA’s revenue is from industry. I forget what the numbers are, but ignoring dues paying members, the NRA reports something like 60% (or more) revenue is from industry. Which only represents about 5% of the NRA’s revenue, but why let facts get in the way.
Additionally, they assume that this is some kind of direct payment/grant from the firearms industry, when in fact it is easily explainable through things like ad revenue, sponsorship of events/displays, or direct donations like Midway’s round up your sale for a donation to the NRA. Which is listed as a corporate donation, even though Midway is just a pass through.
Thanks @CBMTTek, I figured it was something like that. If a industry entity buys and ad in one of the NRA’s magazines, that shows up as income. Same as when a company does a pass through. But the NRA is still funded primarily via memberships and donations.
The taxpayers of this nation, some of whom are NRA members, just donated $2 TRILLION to fight the Wuhan virus. That should be plenty.
I think that the NRA should issue a statement that they will donate 100% of all proceeds (not just profits) from all guns they’ve sold in 2020 to combat corona virus.
Then they should donate half of Wayne’s clothing allowance.
I’d enjoy a challenge: first off, AUTHENTICATE a charity. (say, Salvation Army). Then invite Wendell Gilliard to put his money where his mouth is: invite NRA members to donate, such that they match, dollar for dollar, Wendell’s donations. He gets to virtue signal, Salvation Army (or whoever) gets some money, and everybody gets the STFU about gun control and related bullsheet for a while.
Nah, challenge him to match donations to the Salvation Army made by NRA members.
