In Florida, once you step into any body of water, you are no longer a top of the food chain.

Semi-retired like Vito Corleone before the heart attack. Consiglieri to J.Kb and AWA. I lived in a Gun Control Paradise: It sucked and got people killed. I do believe that Freedom scares the political elites.

I find it pretty cool. There was a Great White offshore here last summer (year before?) that they radio tracked up the coast. They turn up once or twice a year.
They’re rare critters and always have been, as far as I can tell.
Pensacola is so far away it’s almost silly. It’s like a 7 hour drive from me, and change time zone. Must be close to a 10 hour drive for you.
I’ve long maintained that there should be signs on all the major roadways coming in to Florida that says “WELCOME TO THE SUNSHINE STATE – YOU ARE NOT AT THE TOP OF THE FOOD CHAIN ANYMORE.”
When my parents moved to the Tampa Bay area 40 years ago, my dad told me of a local newscast about someone getting killed by a gator in a local lake. It featured a fish-and-game official stating that he would never enter any body of fresh water anywhere in Florida. When I moved to Florida 15 years ago, I avoided stepping in puddles. That precaution preserved my life long enough for me to move again. Now I’m at the top of the food chain again.
