If you haven’t heard, actor and comedian Kevin Hart was tapped to host the Oscars.

The Oscars have been seeing decreasing viewership over the last few years, with them bottoming out in record lows in the age of Trump.

Middle Americans just got tired of watching multimillionaire celebrities applaud rapists, drug addicts, spousal abusers, and pedophiles while pontificating on just how racist, sexist, and downright evil working class Middle Americans are for liking their Trump tax breaks.  Only in Hollywood, is a celebrity with three personal assistants, who makes $20 Million for a few months work of work, with a mansion in Malibu, insulting a welder who pulls 60 hour weeks for $40,000 considered “punching up” because the welder wears a MAGA hat.  But I digress…

Considering just how much of a shit show the Oscars has become, the offer of hosting it to Kevin Hart might very well have been in insult.

Still, it came out that in 2011, some seven years ago, he made some anti-gay jokes on Twitter.  Nothing really terrible, just not nice.

For this, he was shit canned.

He’s still a celebrity, he’s got royalties from some movies and comedy specials.  He’s not hurting financially.

Then what other news broke.

Kyler Murray won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday.  He’s 21 years old.  He has his whole life ahead of him.

Unfortunately for Murray, he made some anti-gay insults on Twitter.  When he was 15 years old, back in the day of 2012.

Just for reference on the social conscience of the nation on homosexuality as a function of time, Obergefell v. Hodges was decided in 2015.

Instead of celebrating his Heisman win, he had to spend the weekend in an act of total public contrition for being a typical teenage boy.

Murray is also a baseball player and has been signed to the Oakland Athletics…. for now.

This is Twitter.  Sure, people in the media got criticized for digging up a six year old tweet by a teenage boy to ruin what should have been one of the proudest moments of his life, but it generates too many clicks and a whole lot of money, and since nobody got fired for it, they will do it again.

Victimhood is one hell of a drug, and Social Justice self-righteous outrage just too addicting for some people not to spend their free time digging through old Tweets or Facebook posts to take someone down for a nothing infraction.

Why would any parent let a child on Twitter.  Ten years from now, that kid could be grown up and sitting for an interview for a job, applying to the state Bar, starting a business, whatever, and hear “well, we found this Tweet from when you were 14 that was bigoted…” and that’s it.

I don’t think there really needs to be any more evidence that Twitter and, to a very slightly lesser degree, Facebook are cesspools not worth swimming in.

We don’t need a top-down Chinese style social credit system, American Progressive Social Justice Warriors are happy do to that voluntarily, searching through your social media and instigating media attacks and you and threats of boycotts against your employer.

This platform is doomed to failure.

Parents, get your kids off social media before a pre-pubescent tweet keeps them off the bench or board or state or field at adults.
