A reader in MeWe asked this question:
The moment I sent my reply, I remembered a scene from the HBO movie “Citizen X” based on the investigation of the many murders of Soviet Serial Killer Andrei Chikatilo.
Political dogma in the Left is everything. It defines truth, it defines scientific investigation and it will define the laws of physics if necessary. Dogma is infallible and if there is something wrong that does not match dogma, then it is you who is doing it wrong.
Dogma early on defined that “mostly peaceful” Marches by Antifa/BLM and any street celebration that upheld the goodness of the Left Party and against Republicans and Trump to be doubleplusgood and would not transmit the Wuhan V. However if two Wrong-People got together to peacefully address grievances or celebrate their chosen candidate, then it became an evil virus super spreader event that was designed to kill grandma and grandpa demonstrating once more why Conservatives have no heart and must be put on a list and “take care of.”
The movie also has the following and very much to the point quote:
And to publicize the case is to admit that such crimes exist in the Soviet Union, which is the one thing they would rather die than do…Publicly admit that anything is wrong.
The difference is in our version, the Party is willing to let us die than admit being wrong.
“That’s a chance that I’m willing for you to take!”
Lysenkoism. Eugenics. “Transition surgery”. Climate change.
All are quests for totalitarian power under the cover of “science”.
First axiom of politics.
Also, to the leftist, there shall be no love before the State. It is why the leftists are trying to destroy social interactions, it is why holiday gatherings are verboten, it is why masks are mandatory. Someone might actually strike up a conversation with a stranger and make a friend.
It suits the left that the interlocking relationships between people are kept as weak and fragile as possible. It’s easier to get people to rat others out that way.
In fairness, “climate change” is very real. Ask any dinosaur.
“Anthropogenic climate change” is an entirely different matter. That is clearly a religious cult, complete with its own pope, Inquisition, and autos da fé.
You can find a database of temperature measurements derived from Greenland ice core samples, reaching back thousands of years (“GISP2 Ice Core Temperature and Accumulation Data”). Graphing those numbers is very revealing: the slight warming of the past 100 years or so is tiny compared to the fluctuations of millennia past. For example, both around 400 AD and 1200 AD temperatures were 1 C higher than now, and back around 50 BC they were 2 C higher. Go back to 1200 BC, 5000 BC, or 5800 BC, and you can find temperatures a full 3 C higher than now. In fact, looking at the graph, I can see that in the past 10,000 years, temperatures below the current ones are by far the exception — 81% of the samples are warmer than now.
