I can see this coming. Part is using his celebrity status and acting skills to serve some sort of community service sentence so the local D.A. sees he is not at fault and thoroughly remorseful for his chain of deadly screw ups and goes easy on him.
The Gun Control advocacy will wave his “suffering” and “remorse” as a new banner to enact more gun control “He has lived it personally! How can you doubt the consequences of playing with guns? We need to learn what he is teaching us!”
Stupid? Insane? Not really. Think about how George Floyd is now some sort of Civil Rights saint whereas he probably committed more crimes against Black people than the Minneapolis PD since it was founded.
There it is.
It’s like using Teddy Kennedy as a Temperance movement spokesman.
We knew this was coming from Day 1. There was an appalling lack of safety procedures and control on that set, but in the end, live ammo or no, the woman would have been alive if Baldwin had not pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger. Guns don’t go off by themselves. They don’t just go off because you pull them from your holster unless you have a really crummy holster. And they don’t point themselves at others. He shouldn’t be the poster boy for anything but carelessness or stupidity.
Baldwin was being neither careless nor stupid.
Two other people, absolutely so.
This has been beaten to death, and the culpability is crystal clearly not Baldwin, much though the opposite would be far more pleasant and fitting to 75M of us.
Just let it go.
How many trigger pulls are there every week on movie/TV sets? Thousands? Million or more most likely. And, in the past three decades there have been… what three people who died because of guns on the set? Let’s compare that to the number of people injured or killed as a result of stunts?
This is just a diversion so that no one will look too closely at the massive amount of safety oversight that happened on set, from the producer down to the janitor.
The lawsuits should be spectacular.
Yes, three. But this is the first ever involving a real round as opposed to a blank. Still, three cases of failure to observe Col. Cooper’s laws of gun safety.
Which are ignored, on purpose, 50,000 times a year in Hollywood, with absolutely zero problems. Until you hire a couple of morons at half price to do it. This is only a failure if one misapplies rules never intended for the situation at the outset.
Buy stock in CGI companies. The firefights will continue in movies but the “guns” will be rubber, the muzzle flashes, reports, and bullet impacts will all be post production.
Not unless CGI can be done for <80¢ a shot.
Current price is closer to $1K@.
So not happening this side of hell freezing over.
I’m extremely interested in hearing less from Alec Baldwin. Should I start a petition?
Prop guns are not supposed to be able to fire live ammo. Only blanks.
Hollywood will crib-strangle this stupidity, because it’d be death at the box office, and the audience absolutely gets that vote.
And Baldwin has retired, whether anyone has told him that or not. His opinions matter to exactly no one, at this point.
This happened because of low IQ and low budget, which is never a good combination.
Not because of guns.
