Phase One, state officials said Friday, will still involve keeping some businesses closed, while others reopen under “strict safety restrictions.”

Phase One will also involve “continued social distancing, continued teleworking [and] face coverings recommended in public,” according to an outline of the plan made public Friday.

How long that phase will last is unclear, but State Health Commissioner Norman Oliver said he expected it to be in effect until “medical countermeasures” like a treatment or vaccine are rolled out broadly.

“I, personally, think Phase One will be a two year affair,” Oliver said. “There are a lot of people working on this, and I hope they prove me wrong, but I don’t see it happening in less than two years.”

UPDATE: Northam outlines phase one of Virginia’s plan for emerging from COVID-19 pandemic

This is madness. What is next? I won’t dare to speculate least give this assholes more food for thought. I have no idea how are they planning to control the population so they can “behave” for at least 2 years under onerous regulations. This is going to bring social unrest like they have not seen.

They are fully intoxicated with power.

I think we are moving from “Heads may fall” to “Heads need to fall.”

  1. Yup. Same stupidity is here in Maine. Morons voted a dumocrat in governers office. Its been unshirted hell here. “We are having discussion on when to reopen”

  2. And…

If you were to challenge Northram or any member of the Legislature to explain exactly what is so horrific about this virus that these measures were/are necessary, you will get no answer.

Been asking that question for weeks now. I get nothing. Even the city and state top health officials are silent on why these measures are necessary.

  3. For context, I don’t think the Plague that ravaged London in its early days lasted that long. Many more deaths, yes, but pretty much anyone that didn’t die developed a resistance to it in about a year’s time.
And they didn’t even have a concept of germs, the Miasma theory was prevalent at the time.
So 2 years in this day and age? Yeah, no, humanity has never locked itself up for that long due to illness. Something will give.

  4. When is the next VA state election? They are in odd years, right? So no opportunity to vote the idiots out for quite a while.

  5. Northam is running out of rope. When ppl and their families run out of food or can’t pay rent, there’s only one way this is going down. This is horrible.

  6. Everything but the area around DC is Republican. If the Dems can starve and destroy that part of the state they won’t care

  7. Actually, I think this move could be the one that turns the Beltway crowd against Northam. If it was the Beltway clowns that elected him, and they can’t go back to work or socialize it’s going to make them crazy like the rest of the us and may in fact turn all of those lefties against his crazy rule. We shall see.

  8. This may well be a boomtime coming for the red states. If the various People’s Democratic Republics go with extra long lockdowns and regulations, we’ll see a lot more business moving to the now open red states.
