I guess I need to update “Only one rule: Don’t be a dick.” to include dick jokes? LOL.

Back in September, I found out I had a hernia. I tried to delay surgery as much as I could until my Sick Days kicked in in April and the amount of accumulated PTO I have will not cover recovery time. But this thing got progressively more painful even with hernia trusses, it seemed the chances of becoming strangulated were raising, so I decided to go ahead and get it fixed.

I had a robotic surgery which looks like OC Doc of Spiderman’s fame is using you as pin cushion. Here is a video of a similar surgery.

I am back home, trying to find a comfortable way to go to sleep (failing) and figuring out how long can I do without painkillers. Maybe it is an irrational fear, but after an experience with Oxy in which my body seemed to forget how to breathe automatically, I don’t like to take stuff like that to go to sleep.

Oh, and I was warned that opioids will make me a bit constipated. Yay! Just what I needed after an abdominal surgery: having to strain like crazy to poop and inflict more pain on myself.

And thank you everybody for your thoughts even when your word would be considered less than gentle by those of thinner skins and hypersensitive feelings. May your dicks shrivel to the shape and color of Cheetos for an hour. 😀

  1. Well, I for one honestly thought J.Kb was riffing off the antis, and meant you bought a new gun. My bad. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
Seriously, though, the Da Vincis are awesome in the right hands. Sounds like it went okay.
Re painkillers, I have an atypical reaction to perkodan/perkocet (they don’t work for me) and ultracet messes with my cognition in a serious way. (In the words of Mrs B, the stuff makes me act like a prick.) Tylenol alternating with ibuprofen at max daily dosage, alternating, is my go-to. Not great for liver and kidneys long term, but for short periods it seems to work well enough.
For the rest, may I suggest metamucil wafers and lots of water. And best wishes for a full and speedy recovery!

  2. In re to “dick shrivel “- its 19 BELOW zero with 20-35 mph wind… he won’t come out enough to shivel like a cheeto…. Go slow good Sir. Too funny! Is it one of those “it only hurts when I laugh things?..

  3. You know I tease you because I love you.

I completely understand where you are coming from with pain killers. They gave me opiates after my kidney surgery and trying to poop with a foot long hole cut in my abdominal wall was not fun. My recommendation was very low fiber, easy to digest foods. I think I ate nothing but scrambled eggs and yogurt for a week. Also milk of magnesia (the plain stuff, the flavored stuff has additives) to make it very watery and easy to move. It will suck for several days and I’m sorry about that. Honestly, I slept a lot. When it hurt, I laid on a heating pad and forced myself to sleep. NSAIDs will only make the pooping problems worse and inhibit healing so avoid those. Best of luck to you.

  4. Good luck with the recovery. Had a similar thing myself. Luckily, did not go through too much pain. Motrin worked just fine for me. Everyone’s pain is different.
Hoping for a fast recovery, and good luck. Listen to the doctors, do not do anything to prolong the healing.

  5. Using robotic surgery for a hernia seems like overkill. Those things aren’t cheap to buy, maintain, or operate.

    Speedy recovery.
