I remember this going back to the late ’70s, early ’80s, in places like NYC and Washington. Crime rate goes down, police chief does press conference crediting “good sound police work”. Crime rate goes up, police chief does press conference blaming “guns on our streets”. At no time was an increase of crime ever attributed to “incompetent cops sleeping on duty” (cf. Frank Serpico).
Add to graphic that the suggested gun control remedy was either in effect and useless or completely unrelated to the incident.
